As someone said in an earlier movie thread, this has been a really decent summer for movies, especially action films. As of this weekend, you can add The Bourne Ultimatum to the list. This movie rocked. With the usual Bourne style shaky camera work, non stop suspense and action, big car chase scenes, and layer upon layer of intrigue, Ultimatum serves as the last(?) of the Bourne trilogy of movies, and the one in which Jason Bourne’s origin is explained. Matt Damon is good as usual, as the spy/assasin with a touch of amnesia and a purpose,…to find out who made him the way he is. Some of the other previous characters return as well, including Julia Stiles as CIA agent Nicky Parsons and Joan Allen as Pamela Landy, and this movie actually slightly overlaps the ending of the last one. Essentially, Bourne is back on the hunt, this time for the broken pieces of his history, and his trek brings him from Moscow through Madrid, Tangier, and eventually back to the U.S. for the first time in the series. Again, the Bourne team manages to bring tons of action and drama without resorting to the latest gimmicky thing. No Parkour or overt use of the newest name brand car or computer system, etc, etc. Bourne simply outsmarts, outlasts, and out-thinks his opponents. The ending leaves open the possibility of more movies, although the original Bourne books were a trilogy. However, since the movies depart so radically from the running plot of the novels, and since the Bourne character is such a popular alternative to the over-the-top Bond style spies we have seen in the past, it wouldn’t surprise me to see more of these films. The pace is frenetic, the plot has decent twists, and Bourne is always seconds away from getting caught, killed, or exposed, keeping the suspense level high from start to finish. If you’re looking for a fantastic action ride, and you didn’t get what you needed from the rest of the summer blockbusters, the Bourne Ultimatum won’t disappoint.
I REALLY wish my wife and I would have went to see Bourne instead of me taking the kids to see The Simpsons.
My kids and I could have rented simpsons episodes on DVD and ate microwave popcorn and had just as much fun (and laughs).
my kids saw The Simpsons and my wife and I saw the Bourne U - - really enjoyed this movie except the jostling camera effect wore me out. Not really sure why it was called Ultimatum (but please don’t fill me in and spoil it for those who haven’t seen it)
No spolier in explaining the name really. It’s called the Ultimatum because that’s the name of the book. There were originally three books, Identity, Supremacy, and Ultimatum. The Bourne Ultimatum was the final book of the trilogy.
I saw it last night…incredibly superb movie. I kinda likes the fact that you got seasick during it because of all the camera shaking. Lots of actiona nd as usual, Damon does a superb job. Ultimatum turned out to be the blockbuster of the summer.
On a side note…anyone know what the moneculear he used to look at Pamela Landy from across the street is? Brand and model? I have never seen one with that zoom and precision qualities before.

Ummm, since it’s a movie, I’d be willing to bet that wasn’t really video from an actual monocular.
I think your mistaken…or your right. One of the two but my guess would be that its out there somewhere.
It’s funny that you mention the monocular, crikey. While i was using about 97 percent of my brain cells to keep up with the rather fast pace of the movie, the other 3% did happen to stop and contemplate that same thing. “Oh ok, he’s outside her window, and she doesn’t know it, but i bet he’s got some kinda plan, and… oh, oh man, that’s a sweet monocular. Crap, i wonder if that thing’s real? It’s so tiny, but it zooms and even has the graduated marks on the lense. That is AWESOME… but I bet it’s fake, cuz there’s no way they could shoot high quality footage through that thing, so i bet they just gave him a pirates of the carribean toy from mcdonalds… dammit.”
But here’s hoping, cuz I’d big time buy one of those to spy on the neighbors… uhh… i mean look at birds.
Yeah…those birds need watching huh? It was a sweet toy though.
actually yes…they use the same software as the one used by the CSI team to zoom in a picture, so that a unique pixel (part of an eye) can actually contain more and someone is identified… ![]()
