Motivational Book Recommendation

I will be going on vacation for a week and am looking for a good triathlon or motivational book or bio to read while laying around? I know, HTFU and train but the wife will have something to say about that.

Thanks.

Ultra Marathon Man by Dean Karnazes. Great book.

i 2nd ultra marathon man, its great even if you are not into running or crazy distance stuff.

case in point, my little brother, very high level gymnast, never ran in his life (is 17), read the book, and then that night turned around and went and ran 9 miles. pretty funny the next day though.

Lance Armstrong’s War by Daniel Coyle. After reading this book, if you’re not motivated you are most likely dead.

Heft on Wheels. Both of the Armstrong autobiographies.

Once A Runner, by John L. Parker Jr. (If you can get a copy, out of print and goes for over $100 on ebay, that tells you something about how much people want to read this book).

“The Rider” by Tim Krabbe. Its just as good as “Once a Runner”, and you can still get it.

The Paula Radcliffe book, She’s not a triathlete, but her story is amazing. Full of disappointment and success!

Dual in the Sun - Google it.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach

The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran
.

Not about the bke by lance armstrong

Ultra Marathon Man by Dean Karnazes. Great book.
Agreed, I read the 1st chapter of the book and was very excited to go running after that. The book is very easy to read, you can finish it in one sitting.

“The Rider” by Tim Krabbe. Its just as good as “Once a Runner”, and you can still get it.
I second this one as well. Reading it was almost as much fun as doing a race.

To the Edge" by Kirk Johnson about the Badwater race.

Also “Gold in the Water” and “Running With the Buffaloes”

the little engine that could - my kid loves it
.

Mark Allen’s Total Triathlete by Mark Allen. I love this book, it’s short but extremely inspirational and only five bucks used on Amazon. I’m waiting for Ultramarathon Man to arrive since it’s gotten so many good recommendations here all the time.

The Pam Reed story trumps Ultramarathon Man by about a million percent (personally, I think Dean is a huge douchebag). And Swimming to Antartica is AWESOME, about long distance swimming. Prefontaine’s biography is good (PRE), and I’m working on Running With The Buffalos right now, so far so good.

Keebaugh’s Treatise on Victory
.

Will, by G. Gordon Liddy.

Best motivational book ever written.

Both Pam Reed’s and DK’s books are OK; Id say Dean’s is way more motivational, but both of them could have used good editors/ghost writers.
I have had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Dean at several races and I would think that a douchebag would be the person who calls him that without knowing him. But this is not a pro or anti Dean thread.
Swimming to Antarctica also is great…but the best book I have read lately is A Walk in the Woods about two guys on the Appalachian Trail…so funny and also interesting. It will make you want to tackle something big whether you are ready for it or not.
