Most ridiculously awesome cycling moments ever

I’ve only been watching cycling for a short while so my two nominations are both recent

  1. when fabian cancellara won the stage 3 in the TDF by just time trialing away from the entire peleton

  2. when fabian blasts away from chase group 3 to catch group 2, then pull them to the lead in the olympics

how were either of those things even remotely possible? lol

by any chance does power data exist for either of those moments?

probably not, probably broke the meter

It’s probably not considered fair game by most to include a Lance moment, but when Beloki biffed right in front of him on hot, sketchy pavement and a fast descent, and Lance went cross-country, then did a flying dismount to jump a ditch and get right back to his previous place in the race. Seriously. I can’t think of many thing I’ve ever seen in sport that rivaled that moment.

I like the guy who jumps over the peloton too:

If you are looking for power moments I bet nothing rivals this one: Obree 's World Hour Record on his homemade bike:

And you have to be Norwegian to appreciate this one: Dag Otto Laurizen drops his keys in the sewer:

Rad. Too bad he stuffs it, though.

Stage 17, 2006 TdF. I really don’t care if it was artificially enhanced or not (I’m of the belief that he was clean of testosterone). Anyways, Floyd, who lost the Tour the day before, just ambles up the road while a confused peloton stares at each other and rides like they’re riding the local century. Floyd builds an insane gap then the peloton realizes they’ve been had when it’s far too late. Floyd pulls himself back into the Tour.

Really an incredible moment in cycling. Tons of fun to watch, still.

Boonen blasting past Ballan and Cancellera in the last 100m of Paris Roubaix '08. Those two knew the race was lost when they entered the veldrome with Tornado Tom and barely responded when he came past.

a couple that I remember.

Lance moments.

Catching Ulrich in that time-trial a few years back

Lance’s handlebars catching the musette and Lance going from riding to on his back in about 0.25 seconds

Non Lance moments

The guy, in the lead, climbing one of those big TDF mountains and one of the spectators trying to get a picture not getting out of the way.

The big crash in the first stage of the TDF where Leipheimer breaks his pelvis.

They were shot before hand with cramps…

For me it’s Ullrich at the 2000 olympics.

Ivan Basso(ET) at the 2006 Giro too… but I think we know why now.

I don’t remember the year or the rider but several years ago at the Tour Down Under the stage leader’s bike broke and his team car was not near him. A spectator loaned him a bike and he went on to win he stage.

The other moment for me would have to be Lemond’s 1989 TdF final stage victory which gave him the overall as well.

Ivan Basso(ET) at the 2006 Giro too… but I think we know why now.

I was tempted to say something about all of Museew’s cobbled classic masterpieces … but … no.

I guess you can do this when your sweet!

The 1972 hour record was pretty cool…

LeMond in 89- the final TT is not only in my opinion the greatest cycling moment but one of the great sporting moments of all time. Absolutely ridiculous! That single moment solidified cycling forever for me.
