Ok - not one to openly discuss my personal life in here - but…this was a jaw dropper and life changing experience for me.
My wife and I have been trying for 5 years to have a child - several failed IVF’s and the last one took and worked - we are currently at week 13.
Due to the process of IVF’s you know from the SECOND of conception - that you are “pregnant” so you are monitored closely - ultrasounds, bloodwork etc etc.
Well several ultrasounds in - it was pretty awesome to know a young child was growing in there- but was not distinguishable as much more than a “Blob”
Yesterday we had our 13 week u/sound and I was floored - there he/she was - a fully developed baby, arms, legs head (obviously) moving - swimming, kicking, punching.
I sat there in a state of shock - told my wife it was the most incredible thing I have ever seen - went to work and have not stopped thinking about it - we still have 6 months to go - but the miracle of life has really touched me this week - simply amazing.
I’m so excited for you!!! I know how much it means to you (well, somewhat), and I can’t even image how you must feel! I can’t imagine the excitement - especially after trying for so long.
I have some friends experiencing the same things right now, and it’s fascinating to see how it changes people every time there is a new development… and I think it only keeps getting better!
Congrats again!! You’re going to be a great daddy!
Wait until the baby arrives and rests in mother’s arms for the first time. Seeing my wife and child meet nose-to-nose and the tears stream down my wife’s face was the most incredible moment for me.
As a father, the first time you hold your child is fantastic … but seeing mother with child is just overwhelming (IMO). They’ve “known” each other for 9 months, are closer than two people could ever be, and yet when they “meet” for the first time … miraculous.
Again, congratulations on your phenominal experience. I know we still have our sonogram photos displayed in our “picture wall” … we felt much the same way you do.
I look forward to being among the first to welcome you into the “Dad’s Club”, and talk about how you don’t sleep for 3 days because you’d prefer to watch your baby sleep and notice all the intrictae details of the smallest fingers, eyelashes, lips, feet, etc that you’ve ever seen.
Be sure to let us know when the birth moment happens. Seriusly, I want you logged on no more than 4 feet away from the birting table. =)
I know exactly how you feel. I’m sitting here right now with our 4.5 week old twins, who were conceived via IVF after 5 years of trying. You’re in for a real treat. Good luck.
Perx … forgive my oversight, I haven’t congratulated you on your double blessing (I saw the cute pics in the Halloween thread, too). Congratulations. Welcome to fatherhood.
Hey Andrew just read your post - wonderful news for both of you - may I wish you all the best of luck as the journey continues - one of lifes greatest gifts.
Congratulations!! That first sono is a wonderful experience…makes the whole thing seem much more real.
When our first child was born, I couldn’t get over how much he actually looked like he did under ultrasound. I kept on saying that he looked just like his ultraound pics. The shape of his eyes and nose, his profile…at one point shortly after delivery, my wife said, “Of course it looks like him. It was him!!” I just couldn’t believe how amazing it was.
And I’m an x-ray tech, to boot…duh!!
They sell some really cute frames for those pics, nowadays. They make a nice, special little gift for your wife, if you can pick one up. My kids love to look at theirs.
whew! that is awesome daddio! so incredibly happy for you.
was just thinking yesterday that i’ve got to get knitting a baby blanket for you guys!!! let me know what colors your wife likes. (doesn’t have to be blue or pink…unless she wants that!
