Most effective power tool...ahh winter is around the corner

what is the most effective power tool purchase to build my bike strength for next season. Pick from the following:

  1. Computrainer
  2. Powertap/SRM/or similar device
  3. Power cranks

btw, most of my winter riding will be indoor except when it is dry on the weekends and i can safely venture outside in daylight…

any anecdotal evidence out there??

i protest this talk right now.

Dude, it’s the middle of August…

Same feeling here let’s enjoy what’s left of summer…just wait another month!!!

ok, get the message…but if i want to boost my power for a late season half, then what is the best tool??

i guess it depends where you live. if alaska, i would say computrainer and can understand that you think winter is right around the corner. the winter of winter makes me cringe… hello phoenix, here i come:-)

i live in CT so weather isn’t the primary driver right now but if i am going to buy one tool i would like to be able to use it year round. (I regularly train indoors on my trainer anyway…)

How about a gym-membership? Or a squat rack at home?

If you don’t mind training indoors, and are already expecting to. I think the Computrainer is the tool for you. I am assuming you are going to base your (winter) training on power. While it’d be nice to have power on the road, I think that it would be more ‘training WITH power’ as opposed to ‘training BY power’. Being able to program the CT for specific wattage levels and time intervals though the coaching software and 3rd party software like ERG+ is the way to go. Outside, it is very hard for most people to find the roads/terrain necessary to perform specific intervals at specific power levels.

and call it a day…

Depressing, yes, but for us in the midwest, winter is right around the corner.

I still protest this topic on the grounds that if I ignore winter it might not happen till later december.

When I saw the title of the thread, I thought you were asking about Sawzall’s vs. circular saws vs. jig saws. Now that is something I need to know.
