Most durable pedal/cleat combination?

I’ve been a LOOK customer for almost 20 years… Always been happy with their products.

I’m getting closer to replacing my pedals…

Recommendations? I’m just kind of tired of having to replace the cleats once or twice every season. Seeing what the consensus is on other pedal systems and cleat durability.

None will hold up longer than the Shimano SPD-SL system. The parts of the cleat that interact with the pedal are not exposed to wear when you are walking. Time RXS cleats would be a close second, for similar reasons.

From a cost perspective alone how can you beat look?

Generic versions of their cleats can be found at Nashbar for cheap – usually under $6 bucks for a pair w/ coupon.

They are interchangeable. I only wear the cleat on the left shoe, because that is one I clip out of at stops. That makes gives me at least 1/3 more wear.

That being said I just got speedplay zeros(for free), but I can imagine I will be replacing them as often and at $40/pair and not interchangeable they definitely are pricey.

SPD-SLs are $20/pair and look interchangeable so the cost is more reasonable than speedplay.

I know your question is durability, but I would think the +/- cleat life is close so it comes down to 1) functionality and 2) cost.

I have about 10,000 miles on my Keo cleats and am just thinking about replacing them…they are cheap and easy to replace and don’t scratch up my tile floors.
