Morton's Neuroma (3)

During pre-op the doc said he’s goin in through the top. Sounds like he’ll be moving or removing the nerve, decompressing between the 3rd/4th and 2nd/3rd metarsals, and potentially lengthening a tendon for the 3rd toe. Already have my boot and was told I can expect to wear it up to a month.

My original podiatrist wanted to go in through the bottom. I talked with a surgeon who works on nba players, thanks to my friend who’s an agent!, and he said never go from the bottom of the foot for athletes since scar tissue builds up and will cause problems for athletes. My surgeon said the same thing so thank goodness I talked with someone before surgery.

Again, I wore my boot until I got m stitches out then transitioned to a shoe with a bing chunk cut out where the incision was so there was no rubbing. But I also “only” had my nerve removed and nothing else done so might be different with more done in your foot.

Thanks for the input. I have plenty of older shoes I can chop up if I feel like I can be comfortable.

Good luck with the surgery and it will be amazing when you can finally run pain free! After 3 years I forgot what it was like to turn a corner without needing to take pressure off of my right foot.

Any luck in finding a wide cycling shoe? Definitely in need myself before IM Texas and a wide running shoe. My dr suggests men’s running shoes.

I have the Lake 223 Air Wide. They are wider than my old Shimano wide shoes.

I’m currently dealing with second bout of MN in 7 years- it’s been awhile since my flared up. I found that the meta pad placed just right- took some memory searching and experimenting while at school to find the spot- and a soft foam spacer between my 3-4 toes has really helped. I know my first bout was from wrong too tight running shoes. This batch is from a change to my biking shoe insoles that made them just too tight.
Wanted to stay away from surgery hearing the horror stories and the fact it often comes back- no thanks. Just patience and diligence about stretching, wearing the right shoes, pads/toe spacers. Oh and I bought a set of Yoga Toes silicone spacers and wear them at night while lounging- MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE in the world for me.
Good luck and keep us informed
