Amen to that - Hoka Mach 6 Wide worked wonders for me, with custom insoles
If looking for wide toe box trail runners, I highly recommend the Topo Mountain Runners. Their road shoes also good.
FYI I fixed mine! (I’m a physician). Altra brand shoes (wide toe box) and I bought a specific, soft kind of Dr Scholls sole inserts and cut-away a hole beneath where it hurts, and reinforced with extra padding underneath a ring of extra foam around the whole. Ran without issues thereafter. Doing ultramarathons now. Couldn’t have run without it. Did not want to do steroid injections or surgery, glad my conservative approach worked! Good luck
