Morning tightness in heel?

OK, so this has been building for a couple of months now as I’ve ramped up my run consistency and mileage. When I first start my morning run, approx. 30 min after getting out of bed, my right heel feels tight. Hard to describe, but it just feels tight from just below the achilles, wrapping around the heel and ending as it hits the bottom of the foot.

It doesn’t feel that way when I first hit the floor out of bed, only when I take the first few running steps. It usually takes about 1/4 mile for it to go away and then I don’t feel it again until the next morning run. Don’t feel it in the afternoon runs. It doesn’t hurt, just feels tight.

So, anyone have any idea what might be going on? I’m savvy enough to know things aren’t as they should be and I’d like to address it before it becomes a problem. If anyone can even direct me to some links or give me a syndrome name to work with I’d appreciate it.

Peace…T

Sounds like plantar fasciitis. I had a touch of this about a month ago. Focused on stretching my calves regularly, and rolled my foot on a tennis ball to loosen the ligaments on the bottom of my foot. Worked well. Google PF. You’ll find a lot of self-care techniques.

However, it may not be PF, and you might want to consider going to your doc to check it out.
