More to Stonehenge than meets the eye

I thought this was a pretty cool discovery.

Would love to fast forward (or rewind) and get the scoop on what it was all for. Also on that note I think I once saw some sort of show where they tried to figure out how they stacked the rocks on top of each other for the TT shaped arches. Does anyone know if a particular theory is considered most likely or if we still have no idea?

It always puzzled me why they built it so close to a major road.

cos that where the ice cream man parks and carry big ass stones around is hot work…

I was thinking maybe the place was the original crossfit gym but on the other hand it was built after the extinction of neanderthals.

The next mystery about Stonehenge that they are looking to solve was whether or not Stonehenge was an Autobot or Decepticon.

Yeah pretty cool, I just saw where they found a major circle fortress in Denmark from the time of the Vikings using what sounded like a similar technology.

“And nobody’s built a henge like that ever since…”

Easy access for the tourists.

Took my kids to see Stonehenge last year and they didn’t get why I kept referring to it as “Stone’enge” on the drive there. Philistines.

I do not, for one, think that the problem was that the band was down. I think that the problem may have been, that there was a Stonehenge monument on the stage that was in danger of being crushed by a dwarf. Alright? That tended to understate the hugeness of the object.
Ian Faith: I really think you’re just making much too big a thing out of it.
Derek Smalls: Making a big thing out of it would have been a good idea.

Stonehenge.

In ancient times…
Hundreds of years before the dawn of history
Lived a strange race of people… the Druids

No one knows who they were or what they were doing
But their legacy remains
Hewn into the living rock… Of Stonehenge

Stonehenge! Where the demons dwell
Where the banshees live and they do live well
Stonehenge! Where a man’s a man
And the children dance to the Pipes of Pan

Hey!

Stonehenge! 'Tis a magic place
Where the moon doth rise with a dragon’s face
Stonehenge! Where the virgins lie
And the prayers of devils fill the midnight sky

And you my love, won’t you take my hand?
We’ll go back in time to that mystic land
Where the dew drops cry and the cats meow
I will take you there, I will show you how

Oh!

And oh how they danced
The little children of Stonehenge
Beneath the haunted moon
For fear that daybreak might come too soon

And where are they now?
The little children of Stonehenge
And what would they say to us?
If we were here… tonight

How old is this discovery?

I could have sworn I saw something on Netflix quite a while back that covered a bunch of these “New” monuments including the wooden henge, the circle ditch things and a few of the others, the road to henge.

I just looked at Netflix but couldn’t find anything. Seems to me like it was one of those “Series” shows about mysterious places etc.

Maybe I’m having dejevu…I want to believe I’m prescient, but I’m probably just having a stroke…or maybe this isn’t really “New”.

Looks like it really just happened a day or two ago. Maybe the show could have been just speculating about something like this.

The greater & Lessor Cursus
Wood Henge
StoneHenge Ave
Durrington Walls

I just wiki’d the places I thought I remembered from the show. From what I can tell all of the above, and obviously stonehenge itself, have been known and being excavated for years. There may have been some new discoveries and a few new places added to the entire historical site, but as I said the show I watched, wish I could remember what it was, covered most of what I read in the article almost to a T.

This article goes into more detail http://m.bbc.com/news/science-environment-29126854.

My interpretation is that they found complementary buildings and structures to the ones you mention. As well as getting more insight into the previously discovered sites.

Yes sounds like some new techniques used on the already discovered areas and also discovered a bunch of new things as well. Should be interesting.
