Despite the numerous protestations, damaged retinas and multiple citations for indecency – it’s back. On December 9th the Toronto Santa Speedo Run will be returning to Yorkville for its second year.
I hope to see other ST’ers there and to help me do a “trial run” on the Thursday before, as we’re booked on City-TV’s Breakfast Television to help raise awareness of the event.
For those of you who haven’t heard of this event, chose to ignore it, or have even consciously put the image out of your head, the Toronto Santa Speedo Run is a little event that started last year, inspired by a similar event run in Boston. It’s a fun run with the only objective being to raise as much money as possible for Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children while making complete and utter spectacles of ourselves. Since idiocy always loves company, once again I’d love to have you join us.
The idea is to do a brief (pun intended) run through Yorkville (Toronto’s uber-chic shopping area), in nothing but Speedo’s, our sneakers, and festive accessories (Santa hats, strategically placed tree ornaments, etc.) The course will be short (less than 3km), and it’s not a race. If you don’t feel like running but can lend a few hours in the afternoon to volunteer, that’d be gratefully appreciated as well. Last year we raised over $7000 for Sick Kids.
Well, I would be all for running in a speedo through Yorkville except that I’m busy that day. Oh, darn!
Good luck with it and good for you for doing it for the 2nd year. Y’all are braver than me. I have trouble walking from the locker room to the pool in my speedo!!
Very, very, very rarely do I ever feel this way, but sometimes it is a good thing that I live so far away from Canada. Alas, and luckily for the spectators, I won’t make it. Best of luck.
Now, if someone got Dawn to run in just a speedo, I would do my best to fill in for her at work, so long as someone else taped it.
Looks like a blast! But sadly, I’ll be in Vegas for the half marathon. Otherwise I’d have to consider the 3 hour drive, since I’ve always wanted to visit Toronto. Can’t wait to see pics!
