I’ve sung John’s praises before, as he really does provide top notch customer service: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=1824502
I’m not entirely certain how long he’s been putting on races but in addition to great customer support, he does a damn fine job as RD as well - coming pretty damned close to, if not equaling the mark set by Joe & Sarah Dixon of Outback Events (best RD’s ever, IMO).
I just got the call to go under the knife to fix an old shoulder injury (bankart repair), which pretty much cancels my 2009 race season. I had sort of planned for this (at least as of last fall) but one thing about the free healthcare in Canada is that you can’t really predict when you’re going to go in. I had already signed up for a few races before making the decision to get the surgery done, and wasn’t sure if I’d be able to race - though I wasn’t betting on it. With my confirmed date of March 17th, there was no way. I emailed John and asked if I could push my registration for the 2009 Victoria 1/2 IM back to 2010. John replied very quickly with care and concern for me personally, and was happy to push my registration back a year. I’m pretty sure that the fine print of the contract says “no refunds/transfers/etc” as that’s a pretty standard boiler plate, but John was willing to work with me - and for that I am grateful.
Thanks again, John - your “customers first” attitude shines through once more.
If anyone is looking for a Sprint or 1/2 IM in Western Canada / the Pacific NorthWest, John has four races that are *extremely *well run. If you sign up for the Season Pass, they’re also a killer value. Check out http://www.triseries.ca/ for details.
