More Powertap problems (1)

Hoping for some ST wisdom here.

Have a used PowerTap SL wired on a DT Swiss wheel. I used to run it on my Colnago, but crashed in a race 4 weeks ago and have replaced the Colnago frame with a 2007 Specialized Tarmac. All components that were on the Colnago are now on the Tarmac. My PowerTap worked fine on the Colnago. No problems at all. Since I had it swapped over to the Tarmac, it doesn’t work right.

I have power to the computer and to the hub. It reads cadence just fine. What happens is that whenever I touch the pedals, the computer stops reading the hub. Cadence continues to work, but speed and power are no longer displayed, and the icon in the corner that shows it’s reading disappears. If I stopp turning the pedals, it continues to show no read out (except “0” for cadence) until the speed of the rear wheel drops to a speed of about 6-8 mph. Then, it starts reading “0” for power and displays the current mph. If I even TOUCH the crank again to start turning, it stops reading the hub.

I have tried:

  1. Replacing the battery in the computer (didn’t think that was it, but tried it anyway)
  2. Replacing the batteries in the hub (didn’t think THAT was it either, but thought it could be)
  3. Three different mounting kits (in case there might be a short in one of the wires on one of the kits)

I don’t get it. The hub/wheel seem to read fine when the wheel is mounted on my aluminum Motobecane rain bike and on my Guru aluminum tri bike. It’s only when I try to mount it on the carbon Tarmac that it gets wonky. I keep thinking there’s a simple explanation, but I’m so frustrated by the process that I can’t for the life of me figure out what it could be.

Any ideas from the brilliant minds of ST?

Bump to the front page. Nobody has a guess yet?

Yeah, I would try giving them a call and see if they have an idea, sounds like something might be damaged.
