Ok, My ITB is in bad shape. I have been off of it for 4 weeks. Started PT last week. I have been doing the standard practices. I tried running last night and could only go for 6 minutes.
Here is my question, do you think the stretching, foam roller an PT is just keeping the ITB swollen and irritated? I would have thought I could have ran more last night. My leg is much more lose and feels great.
Keep up the foam roller. Do everything you can to stretch your glutes, hams, quads, etc. Start doing straight-legged deadlifts with a managible weight. Start taking Cod Liver Oil. Don’t ask me why the last two help… I simply found that they do, and after over a year of fighting ITB (and finally getting back on the road) if I skip either one for a while, I feel it.
I saw the dead-lift recommendation on an ultramarathon site, and a fellow runner recommended the cod liver. An M.D. in my hometown (who is a runner) scoffed at the cod liver oil, then could not recover from a knee injury, started using it, and now prescribes it to his arthritis patients. He says that it goes against everything that he “knows” from a medical perspective, but it works!
Also, Syn-flex glucosamine supplement did wonders (no financial interest).
