More Hope, More Change, More Broken Promises

Lecturing us about the evils of earmark / pork spending as he gets ready to sign it!

Quite a politician. Why don’t you start showing us some Presidential Leadership and send this back to be fixed now?

Oh, and spare me the “it’s last year’s business.” As one pundit put it, if that is the case send the bill down to Crawford, Texas to be signed by Bush.

And before folks jump in and say that earmarks are “good” or that they constitute a small percentage of the budget the fact remains that this was a major campaign issue and a direct promise…now broken.

I’m so sorry your hopes and dreams were shattered by a politician.

You’re out of your mind if you put any stake in a ANY politician’s campaign promise. Even Baby Jesus’ promises (Obama). I agree with you, however - it was disappointing to see this.

Earmarks are $5.5 billion out of $410 billion. If the bill isn’t passed by Weds at midnight the federal gov’t has to either shut down or they start passing emergency measures…which could make things much worse.

I don’t like the bill, but I’m not up in arms over this.

Your pundit must have forgotten that Bush isn’t president anymore and can’t sign it.

5.5 billion is a lot of money. If you brake every piece of spending down it is less then the total so it’s not a fair exercise. I think it is great that he has shown himself to be just another political hack.

Last world leader to pull the wool so fully over the eyes of the elected with such a masterful way of leading the lemmings to the clif was Adoph Hitler.

The bill may be a turd, but it’s the turd congress came up with (earmarks from both parties, of course).

If he doesn’t sign it the gov’t shuts down and congress comes up with something else, probably something worse. It doesn’t matter either way.

Teehee! Chip you’re going to make people mad! Now be nice.

The war on earmarks start right after he signs this pork laden bill!

How does this not make one a liar?

“If he doesn’t sign it the gov’t shuts down”

Hooray! Won’t happen but sounds nice.

You are in so much trouble once someone lets Art know about this post. You better hide!

That’s where leadership should come in. He displays leadership by telling congress to send him something without the pork. If they don’t, then he can tell the public that they failed to do so.

But, his own party is in control of the legislature so don’t expect him to do that.

The pubs had offered up the option of just doing an extension that covered the rest of the year at current levels. Doing this would have prevented the automatic upward adjustments in spending and could have saved a bunch and been a small feather in Obama’s hat. The road less travelled remains so.

I hadn’t heard that, sounds like a good plan.

I’d rather he’d vetoed it myself, but I can see how he wouldn’t want the federal gov’t shut down 52 days into his term.

It would probably save us a boat load of money if the legislature shut down for a while.

5.5 billion is a lot of money.

Good thing you don’t have to pay the whole thing. 5.5 billion is ~$22 a person. If you still think thats a lot of money, don’t worry…you’ll pay less.

I should have voted for McCain. Damn! He would never have accpeted any pork…except for the bail out he signed when he suspended his campaign.

Sorry to bbbut McCain. I’m just sayin’ that its politics as usual.

Obama, has no fucking idea what he is doing. The only thing of substance he has done/talked about is pay for performance for teachers, that’s it. Everything else has been a huge FAIL.

Exactly! Raise your hand if you are surprised that things are still the same in DC. And, to be honest - the same number of hands would probably be raised if McCain had made it in. As long as there are two parties - it will always be politics as usual. Nancy Pelosi isn’t happy that Obama got in because he’s Obama, she’s happy that her party has more power. She isn’t going to change her stripes just because of Obama.
