…especially if you like Guinness.
I’m going to live forever, my friend. Forever.
Brewing season’s a-coming. First up, a basic IPA. Next up, a Theakston ale.
mmm, Guinness. The last race I did was sponsored by Beck’s, not my favorite, but decent free beer will definitely do.
I’d love to see some races sponsored by Guinness, or any beer for that matter.
I don’t need any lameass Wisconsin study to tell me what I already know. What kind of fool would deny the health benefits of a thick dark pint of Guiness? ![]()
In an in-depth conversation with my doctor last year, who BTW, is a runner, he advised me to drink at least one guiness, or glass of red wine per day. He told me the darker the beer the better>also, the darker the wine the better. For some reason, in this country, we’re always needing convinced of the benefits of a proper beverage…I’m not sure I “get that”, but it is what it is. Hell, if it were up to me I’d have a guiness tap flowing happily all day long, and the whole neighborhood could come over for all I care. I just LOVE that stuff! kittycat
I broke my leg really badly about 14 yrs ago. It took ages to heal properly. I was on one bottle of Guinness per day for about 3 months to assist the bone growth. The doctor told me to do it - in fact she insisted on it.
And my momma always told me to do what the doctor said…
I think it’s because we are fundamentally conflicted about alcohol. The major beer labels are selling crap that is focused on getting you drunk via drinking in quantity, not tasting yummy in moderation. Therefore, we have trouble resolving drinking alcohol in general, which we are taught to believe is a vice, with the enjoyment of some ale or wine in moderation, which is simply living an enjoyable life.
That said, having study after study show that drinking some alcohol is good for you conflicts with the message we send that drinking is bad(because we equate all drinking with ‘until drunk’.)
If I remember correctly, the old Guiness poster that I saw in Ireland said “Guiness … For Strength” I thought that it was a doubtful proposition when I read it, but maybe it was truth in advertising.
On a similiar note, my hometown will hold it’s annual Octoberfest this weekend. Before you yell that’s it’s not october yet, it coincides with the original in Munich.
CG,
Great news. I read that to. Perhaps some of the breweries will get back into the sponsorship game. I recall downing a few free Brick Beers after the old Brick Duathlon in Waterloo and the Bud Light flowing like water after some of the old Bud Light Tri Series in the US. Even at Ironman Hawaii back in the 80’s you could get few Free Bud Light beers after you finished because Bud Light was a sponsor. AHHH, the good old days!

You should definately run The Boilermaker next year. All the free Saranac Beer you can drink after the race. Lets just say that this year I needed a lot of fluid replacement after the race.
Slick,
Wife and I have it penciled it. See you there.

Guinness!!! Yeaaaaa!!! Had two (or was it three) the night before my sub 11 hour IM California. Probably not the best idea, but it was my first IM, no particular goals except to have fun since my running was under-trained.
