More Detroit/Cobo nonsense

Honestly, I have no idea why anyone listens to Rep. John Conyers (D). I implore President Obama to not give a red cent to the City of Detroit to renovate Cobo Hall. There is a solution that does not require federal monies. Please, please, please do not further empower these balloon-heads.

The best part of this article is a quote from President of City Council Monica Conyers. “We do not need a Regional Council for Cobo Hall. If you want to help, just give us the money.”

I pray that President Obama has even a shred of the honor and wisdom that so many extolled during the campaign.

Seriously another “Here’s why I hate Detroit and Detoit is a shit hole” thread?

I don’t hate Detroit. Not by a long shot. I truly hope that Detroit has a recovery. I have lived/worked in the Detroit-Metro area since I was 5 years old.

Both John and Monica Conyers are representative of the problem that caused Detroit’s decline, and they do nothing but stand in the way of progress.

I may not have the solution to fix Detroit, but I’m damn certain it is not giving the Detroit City Council a blank fucking check.

Understood, just seemed like more piling on…Monica is a major roadblock on the council, she will be gone soon hopefully when all the Synegro stuff comes out…

I agree 100%. This is a private matter.

Understood, just seemed like more piling on

The thing is that I couldn’t post this story a week from now…it would lose it’s timliness and probably be a nonstarter.

**Monica is a major roadblock on the council, she will be gone soon hopefully when all the Synegro stuff comes out… **

I do not know if I would call her a “roadblock on the council” as they (most of the council) seem to be more than willing accomplices to her nonsense. If you mean that she and the council are a major roadblock to the progress of Regional Detroit, I absolutely agree. They need to accept the hand that is being offered to them. They are getting an astounding amount of money from the suburbs and surrounding counties (for crying out loud, L.Brookes Patterson is going to institute a 20 year long tax INCREASE to make this happen). This is no small order. I understand they don’t like the idea of a 5 person panel but TOUGH BANANAS…there is a cost when you take other people’s money. Plus Detroit gets the lone veto chair. As usual with this bunch, it is more about how the power APPEARS to be divided than what it actually is.

I can only hope you are correct if this Synagro stuff comes out. I’m not sure it will be as satisfying as you do though.
