It just seems odd that they don’t know splits, they don’t know how far the leaders are behind each other, and they when they do know the time splits, they don’t know what mile they are taken at. Why wouldn’t you have check point? People with radios, phones, etc.
Yes, I am happy for the info they give, but this just seems odd.
Maybe if they cleaned off their desks they might be more organized. It’s like an SNL skit: Every time they come back from a commerical the pile of shit on their desk is higher…
By the time Faris crosses the line it will just be a wall of papers in front of the camera.
They don’t even know who is finishing. THey had Lieto finishing ten minutes ago, and he just finished now. There must be limited communication. THey don’t know the time gap between Badmann and Jones. At the 23 mile mark they are still giving the gap at the 20 mile mark, and saying it is the 23 mile mark gap–then, of course, they discuss the importance of this.
What I’m curious about is that they don’t seem to be getting the info that is being posted on the live update. Some of the things they annouce are up on live update for 15-20 minutes.
Remember that these guys are not pros. And they don’t do this all year long. Typically, in a sports broadcast you got the pro broadcaster with the ex-jock analyst. These guys are all ex-jocks (with the exception of Babbit who’s not a pro by any stretch).
I think this broadcast, while obviously an amature production and not without mistakes, shows that the time has come to have this thing on live network television. Screw the NBC bullshit.
