the FB posts are not really clear what happened, was it cancelled completely or just the swim? cant get any clear info yet.
Seems like there was some freaky weather? anyone know what was going on?
I had an athlete doing the oly. She said they canceled the swim and moved the race to 9am. She bailed. ![]()
Not sure hat happened after that.

thanks
too bad…they were calling for storms here in MA and was nice all day.
I was there. I stayed and did the race. Here’s the lowdown:
Severe lightning hit during early AM transition setup. It got a bit hairy. Lots of heavy rain as well. Everyone had to clear out and seek car or permanent structure shelter. It cleared a bit close to 7 and then another round of lightening came through. Soon after that, the word went out that the swim was cancelled, the bike shortened to 17 miles with a TT start, and the run stayed the same.
I live near Bristol, and the weather forecast is dicey for the rest of today. We are now under a tornado watch.
I saw lots of people turning chips in and some were upset about the decision. Yes it was disappointing, but I think they made the right call. The weather can turn really quick here when it gets hot and humid (as it is today) and T-storms and Tornado watches/warnings can pop up anytime.
All of the people that stayed seemed to have a great time. We all made the best of a bummer situation.
I was pleased at my performance with my first 20+mph bike and a PR 10K, so I am glad I stuck it out!
I am doing the 1/2 tomorrow / i live 40 miles away. IMO it was DEFINITELY the right call in canceling the swim if the weather at Bristol was similar to where I was – smart call. Nobody should be seconding guessing Keith and crew on this one…
Bummer, Keith had to cancel the Oly/Sprint Swim at LS also, can’t be a fun day as a RD when you have to deal with that. Hopefully the weather clears out for the 70.3 tomorrow.
Makes me glad to have chosen the Rev 3 Oly.
We had some similar threats, thunderstorms, etc., but really only got dumped on in transition, and had cleared before the swim start. Sun was out for the run, but did not cool. It was pretty hot and humid.
