Anyone in Slowtwitchia do the half? How was the water temp? I know that Keith the RD does a bang-up job, but the cool spring wasn’t something he could control…
Happy to report that the rainy weekend string in NH was stopped at 6. It was a beautiful, if maybe a bit warm, weekend for participants. Several said the water was warmer than they thought it would be and that they could have gone sleeveless.
Thanks to all the STers that stopped by to say HI. Congrats to bigskies who took his age group!
Chuck,
It was a pleasure meeting you up there. I hope the group that raced in their Vitruvians placed well.
I thought the water temp was perfect. The air temp at the time of the run, however, was another story. It was hot!
All in all, another fantastic event put on by Keith. Great job everybody!
Great weekend. KJ pulled of another fantastic festival du tri. The water was very nice by Sunday, but it did get hot out on the course.
Good to meet bigskies and reunite with friends in the New England triathlon crowd. Wore my Peaceful Tribe shirt on Saturday morning got friendly greetings from several STers.
Congrats to all finishers, and to Keith for another great RD accomplishment.
Chris
The water was fine, best part of the day. Kieth and crew have their act together, expert execution over the weekend. Well stocked run aid stations kept me from overheating, plenty of ice cold water, sponges, hoses etc.
I met Rappstar and did see one other tribe jersey that i just gave a “hey slowtwitcher” to as we passed near the water.
It was an absolutely beautiful venue. The RD and crew did a great job pulling it off. My only complaint was that some of the aid stations ran out of water on the run course and a few people I know were left a little dry. The course was challenging and absolutely beautiful. I couldn’t have asked for a better lake to swim in.
I participated in the first aqabike contest and won the male division! I was edged out by a women by a few minutes though (much respect to her).
I look forward to Timberman in the end of August!
Jonathan
Please tell me you’re kidding with that last comment…

No, I bet he really is looking forward to Timberman.
(I am too)
It was great event - a hot, difficult, day to be sure, but nonetheless superb. I consider Columbia to be a true test of early-season fitness, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the Mooseman 1/2 - this should be the gold standard by which early-season fitness is based! I have done all three years of Granite Ledges (same course as Mooseman 1/4), and knew to respect the course completely, but how the nature of a course can change when it is doubled (and then some) makes for an interesting study as I think long and hard about it. It didn’t “help” that yesterday was very warm and sunny, a big change from the temperatures of the late-September Granite Ledges, but a pretty tough international distance course becomes an absolute bear when up-graded to a 1/2iron, regardless of the weather. As for the water, it was really fine. I had my QR neoprene cap with me and even bought a pair of neoprene booties just in case, but wore neither for the race and didn’t even bother to “double-cap”. The water temp in Newfound went from 56 Thursday to 60 Friday to 61 Saturday morning, and although I didn’t hear anything definitive about Sunday’s temp, I figure it was 63-65.
Again, a fabulous effort by Keith Jordan and his outstanding crew. The race t-shirt has a great design and is a truly unique color, and the inclusion of race-logo socks in the goody-bag was a wonderful bonus. Post-race food was bountiful, and being handed a soaked race-logo towel upon finishing was much-appreciated (as was the race-logo water bottle filled with COLD water). As I live and breath, nobody does races better than Keith Jordan!
And it was good to see some of you STers there. Keep the peace, people, and enjoy the rest of the season!
Big Skies, your check is in the mail:) We had a great time, and lucked out with the weather. It’s rainy and 60 today…
About the “running out of water” comment. We definitely didn’t run out of water. We had 2 “sugar shack” stations that just had defizzed pepsi, cookies, clifbars, pretzels, etc. They were in addition to the every mile water/heed/carbboom stations. It was my mistake to put them out there without water, figuring that they were close enough to the actual water stations. However, alot of athletes would go by them asking for water. Each of the Sugar Shack aid stations had 1 case of water for their own personal consumption. They felt badly, and gave it out to the competitors. So, they probably didn’t have water…
We’re going to put those Sugar Shacks with the main aid stations next year, just to avoid confusion…
Thanks to all that participated! On to Timberman!!!
