For those of you who have wondered “I wonder how Monk’s Feet are doing after the nasty picture from IMAZ?” Thanks for asking. Here is how they look six weeks out:
I did a 40K TT today. I did 1:05:10, however, I missed a turn. I was very focused! I knew the first turn was at 9 miles, and I was at 9 miles. I saw the cop at the turn with his lights flashing. I kept going. He yelled and that’s when I figured it out. I had to wait for two cars, one slowed down to be helpful, not realizing he was being unhelpful. I turned around and went back. It probably cost 45 seconds at most, but I am seeing how seconds add up. Anyway, I computed my average at 23.2MPH, but maybe I’m not so good with numbers. My average HR was 174. I lost focus a couple of times–my new mantra is “You can never get a pedal stroke back.”
Here is me at the finish. My son took the picture. He is available for wedding photography and other important events.
Here is Jeff, no Great Dane puppy, but I like him.
That’s pretty impressive using Cops as marshalls! But, Monk, that boy of your’s has a pierced ear! Don’t you realise that is the start of the decline of Western civilisation? Next they will be wearing skirts and demonstrating in the streets!
1:05 is a great result nice job! Just a few questions Did you wear sleeves this time? Did you race the Zipps and was it a noticable difference? Did it rain the whole time and were there lots of turns? Was there any wind? How many minutes between riders, nobody in sight in front or behind. Why is your second toe bigger than your big toe?
Decent time there, Monkster. I have been stuck working and have been lucky to get 2 rides a week in. I bagged this race. May see you in June.
They use cops as marshalls because the promoter makes a pretty hefty donation to the local “explorers” club. Bad news is, instead of time penalties for drafting, they just shoot you. Usually every race someone tries to get away with it. Then you hear the shotgun blast echoing across the sugar cane fields…
Impressive, very impressive. To what do you attribute your advancement in bike studliness? I like the finish pic, keeps the camera and the son warm/dry. Cool that he went out to see dad deliver the goods.
Ah, how I love feet - Hey, nice time! Nothing at all to be ashamed of. My goal (someday) is a sub 1 hour 40K time trial (after my sub 3 hour Marathon of course).
Yes, this: Did you race the Zipps and was it a noticable difference?
Yes, and who knows. I think when you drop that kind of dough, you can convince yourself of anything. Did it rain the whole time and were there lots of turns?
When we left the house it was raining, but about a mile from the race site, it looked like it hadn’t rained at all. There was a little drizzle towards the end. Four turns. Oops, I missed one, five turns Was there any wind?
3-5MPH You would consider it basically windless. On my computer I was seeing a lot of 25 out and 22+ fighting to keep it over 23, on the way back. How many minutes between riders, nobody in sight in front or behind.
1 minute between riders. The guy who started right behind me past me so fast I couldn’t believe it. Another guy caught me about mile 8. I caught three people. Why is your second toe bigger than your big toe?
Its like having an opposable thumb. Actually its not, I just have the big toe drawn up, and the others are down. Thanks for asking.
If his second toe is in fact longer than his big toe (and he is skittish about admitting it), it is what is known as a Morton’s toe. I have recently learned this because I am suffering from a Morton’s neuroma, and the toe and the neuroma often occupy space adjacent to one another in sports injury books. I am happy to dispense this information, and I hope someone finds it useful.
