Monkey begone in Milton

Finally got over the hump. Raced a supersprint tri in Milton this morning (after three very poor duathlons to start the season) and didn’t suck. Well, didn’t suck for a guy who is as out of shape as I am and trains so very little. Three previous races had bike splits well out of the top half (only ever happened a few times in the previous 19 seasons)…today…24th fastest bike out of 186…finished the day 42nd overall and 9th of 42 in my age group. So nice to have a race that actually boosts ones confidence for a change. Matt Freeman had a great race too but I’ll let him tell you about it.

You’ve had an early start. I did Peterborough Du and should be back for the tri. You sound more like me - a bike guy. Maybe we should concentrate on TT’s?

Don’t think I haven’t thought about that a lot the last couple of years. Actually did a ride with a friend when I was 16 and bumped into a bunch of young cyclists at the top of a local hill we usually dualled up. They said something about doing a TT and did we want to have a try and see how we’d do (we had both been doing tris for the last two yrs so we had an idea how a TT went). So we got slotted in and did a 1km all out TT with the other 12 riders there that day. I wound up 6th and my friend ended up 9th. Not bad considering the others in the ride were the provincial junior team. Every once in a while I have my regrets about not going full on cycling…but they can be such elitist snobs (some of them anyway). I’ll stick with my tri pals thanks. I’d still like to do a TT one of these days…see how I stack up against real cyclists.

Yes, it was a fun race this morning, eh. I did the tri this morning for the second year in a row and had fun. That Sixth Line hill is pretty cool…I fared much better this year now that I knew what the course was like (it also didn’t hurt that the water was above 60 deg F this year).

I’m looking forward to Muskoka in two weeks…can anyone confirm that Peter Reid will be there?

Cheers.
