In the past couple of years since we bought our current home, we’ve had a severe to moderate mole problem and we can’t seem to get rid of them. I regularly use poison and smoke bombs and have seen over a 50% reduction in activity (mounds and area of impact) but can’t seem to get rid of them. I got a quote from an exterinator for over $500 and I have four acres so the electronic pulse things you put in the ground would probably scatter them around my property versus get rid of them.
Take this from a guy who grew up working on a golf course combating these critters over several hundred acres. If you can kill one and leave him in the yard it severely diminishes the amount of his buddies that will show up. My dad had a ton of them show up in South Carolina a few years ago and he never told me about it until after he had paid someone to combat them with no results. I had him constantly scanning the yard and when he saw one burrowing along he ran out and cut him in half with a shovel. Left him there and I think he killed maybe one more and never had a problem since. Takes time…and effort that not everyone has, but it worked on the golf course and worked for me pops! I can only guess, but either the smell or coming up along side one of their buds in 2 pieces is all it takes for them to figure out it’s better to seek life elsewhere.
With four acres it’s probably not practical but if only a portion of that is manicured lawn the way I got rid of my moles was adding grub control in with the normal weed/feed. It may take a little time ( every year there was less and less mole activity and I was mole free after three years ) but once the grubs are gone the moles were gone.

Actually moles do eat grubs but their favorite food is earthworms.
