**however, i’m just and old school fart on this and i still not at the place where i will take a banned substance, even tho i haven’t raced in some years. i guess i just am not ready to assume i won’t race. i think i probably will race. so, nothing on the WADA list for me. **
There’s a really fast and strong Master’s Road racer who I ride with regularly with our club. Formerly a top placer in Master’s races provincially and nationally. Nice guy. I’ve actually known him since the days when we were both runners. At that time he was a nationally ranked 1500m runner. He started taking testosterone a few years ago for medical/health reasons, and stopped racing at the same time. He’s quite open about this - that: A) He is taking testosterone and B)That he can’t race.
He still rides a lot. Cycling is a great sport in this regard, that you can still really enjoy it and be involved in it, but never pin a bib number on. Just within my club like most large cycling clubs we have a weekly TT series, a hard Thursday night, “world championships” ride, and then Sat/Sun options for large group 100km+ rides!
i have a friend in the same boat. he sought a TUE, had all the documentation, was denied, so, he had to give up one or the other and gave up racing. i have no problem with his decision.
