Article in http://www.mmatorch.com , Diaz talks about how his passion for triathlon helps his MMA training. He says he would be a full - time triathlete if it paid like the MMA did.
Could you provide a link to the article? That site has about 10 million different articles on the front page.
Don’t know the OP’s article, but the Huffington Post has an article on him that talks a lot about triathlon

.
Don’t have a link, but it’s the article talking about his mental advantage in fights.
2:46 oly. Hmm. They seem to hype his tri prowess up a bit more than a 2:46 oly might warrant.

I bet he does it eddy m style on the bike though.
and, one you escape the Slowtwitch Reality Distortion Vortex - 2:45 is still faster than well better than half the people in his age group at most races.
but yeah that is why he is pro at fighting at not triathlon =)

They do show his individual splits, it’s not like he’s got a parachute behind him on the bike and his swimming and running are all-world. 53min 10k split isn’t really much to write home about if you’re a relatively young professional athlete without a ‘day job’. And yeah I realize that technically MMA is his day job but the UFC do seem to spend a very large amount of time hyping up his ‘non traditional training methods’.
Edited to add: You can see his bike in this video. He’s at least running aerobars and a disc, can’t tell which bike that is but it’s clearly a TT bike. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaQssTB4Lwc
If you look him up on athlinks, he does have some decent performances. Looks to be an above average swimmer, decent biker, just ok runner. I think he has a couple of 5:0x HIMs (Vineman). I think he’s done Alcratraz too.
I bet he does it eddy m style on the bike though.
While I realize you’re talking Eddy Merckx style, there’s a large part of me that hoping he’s doing it Eddie Money style on the bike. Not sure what style that is, but I’d like to see it…
But let it be said he will do his 2:46 and then kick your a$$, no really, he will kick your a$$.

"I do triathlons. I’ve done f------ 112-mile bike rides and 26-mile runs all in the same event. You can do it high, it feels great loaded.
Q: Wait, you compete in triathlons when you’re high?
ND: Hey, you know, it’s not going to be a problem. If I was going to go and try to win first place and become the most competitive triathlete in the world then, maybe I wouldn’t go out and try to compete high. But if you’re just going on a big, long relaxing workout event day then yeah, do a triathlon as completely loaded as you can get because you’re only going to be able to get high probably – you get out of the car and next thing you know go up and transition. Everything is going to take an hour to set up your transition and you can get high during that time. So you can get high and then for about an hour set up your transition and then go do a triathlon and you’re still going to be loaded. It’s going to go about a couple hours into the event, I guess. But why not do a triathlon high? "

At that time, he had done well at the Vineman (iron distance).

I doubt it, he seems like a nice guy. He’s said many times he only does MMA for the money and doesn’t really like fighting.
I’ve read this about Diaz before. He does have pretty impressive cardio in the octagon. I don’t think there are too many guys that will outlast him. I don’t care for his attitude (OK, so I think he’s a complete headcase), but he’s a hell of a fighter.
You’re the first peraon I’ve ever heard call Nick Diaz a nice guy. He’s a great fighter, for sure, but nice?!

its hard to know if he is nice and acts like a thug for promotional purposes
or if he is just a thug
or bipolar and nice on some days and insane on others
I’ve never seen him act like a thug except at the weigh-ins, where they’re basically being paid to play things up. Sure, he seems fairly antisocial, but I suspect he may be borderline asperger’s or have some similar affliction. He obviously hates interviews and is surly with reporters, but I don’t think that qualifies you as being a ‘thug’.
tough crowd here! You’re not a legit triathlete unless you’re sub-2:00 in the Oly! For the record, I believe he enjoys the off-road triathlon stuff a bit more.
He’s a regular at an XTERRA I do every April near Sacramento. I’ve never personally chatted with him but he’s actually pretty quiet when not under the UFC hype machine spotlights. I’ve seen people go up to him to get pictures with him and he seems very mellow and friendly about the whole deal.
Now… I hope to beat him this year. Hopefully he doesn’t throw me into a rear naked choke for my troubles at the finish line! Or hopefully he does… would make a great picture! ![]()
Interesting quote:
“every fighter that steps into the Octagon on fight night is physically fit – in many respects, these are the fittest athletes on the planet – yet, due to his triathlon background, Diaz ensures he is in a league all of his own.”
So, if that quote is to be believed, then MMA athletes are the fittest athletes on the planet. But if triathlon puts him ‘in a league of his own,’ then triathletes must be out of this world fit.
fighting is a mix of fast twitch and slow twitch talent.
he might be amazing at the 400m or 800m or something.
not many people in the 2:10 range in an oly are going to be able to knock people out with a jab! =)

… or stomp BJ Penn into talking about retirement.
