MMA Question

Watching WEC Wreckage tonight and got to wondering - what is the stuff the medical guy puts on the fighter’s eyebrows and below their eyes? Looks like vaseline or something…

That’s essentially what it is, although there are likely different brands. Boxers have done this for years. It allows the gloves to slip of the face a little better while getting punched. It helps prevent cuts, and reduces the amount of force absorbed from the landed blow.

Occassionally in boxing, you’ll see the ref ask the corner to wipe some off of a fighter’s face if they’ve put it on a little too liberally.

There is also another substance, the name escapes me, that they’ll place in a cut to act as a coagulate to stop the bleeding. This can get gruesome at times, and it’s amazing how the fighters just continue fighting as if there wasn’t a 1/2 by 2 inch cut on their eyebrow. They ain’t like the rest of us.

Ahh, that makes sense. Thanks!
