MLB - Rolen out for season

Scott Rolen, out for the rest of the year (now using NFL terminology) with a “shoulder”.

ESPN TV just noted it as out for the season with surgery, but the link above makes it seem like he may not yet have surgery (he’d be a nice pinch hitter to have maybe?)

Encarnacion also goes down with fractured orbital bones from a foul ball. Things had been looking up in the STL, till now.

PS: My team, the Washington Nationals, still suck. Just in case you were wondering.

Did Scottie collide with a pitcher again?

I love Rolen and his hustle and high quality play, but my man is fra-gi-le … and I don’t mean Italian (<-- CHristmas Story).

I remember back when cardinals 3rd baseman Bobby Bonilla got injured and out came the despair. The Cardinals brought up a 14th round draft named Albert with a funny-sounding last name.

The way this season’s going, I’m not even sure losing Pujols is an obstacle they can’t overcome (please no, please no, please no, knock on wood).

The best parts of this cardinal’s season is hey, we’re still the champs, and there’s absolutely no pressure. With all the players lost to injury and free agency, it’s impressive that they’ve achieved a .500 record.

Man, this division is sad. The Cubs are trying their best to give away the lead, and no one wants it. grin

You know, at times it REALLY seems this way. The Brewers have totally collapsed, they keep getting injuries, and Capuano has stunk it up. The Cubs have had issues all year, and getting Soriano back is real important.

Given the way things are going, I’m inclined to say that the Cards could make a good run (heck, it seemed like the freaking Reds had a chance!). I have no clue about Rolen’s intangibles, but he plays good D and is a pretty good bat (I don’t think as good as many people think however).

If I had to put money on it, I’d say it’ll be the Cubs. I think Soriano is going to MAKE them win, whether they want to or not.

Well, this means Scott Speizio is going to be on the field, and if there’s a time of the year that Speizio plays well … it’s Sept/Oct.

I’m trying to think of somethiing that would actually surprise me, and perhaps outside of Eckstein hitting 26 homers in September, I’m having trouble coming up with a realistically possible situation.

Hey, Mark Mulder’s coming back. If he actually won a BIG game (0-3 in playoff elimination games) I’d be surprised. Man, I gotta get one of these jobs like MUlder, Danny Jackson, Donovan Osborne, etc. Be a cardinal lefty who pitches one spring training every 3 years, while making millions “rehabbing”.

The Cardinals won the world series with Reyes and Weaver throwing great games. Anything can happen.
