New documentary on Netflix.
Gave me a good cry.
The USSR game is one of the events during my life that I wish I could go back in time and attend.

Its pretty incredible that Al Michaels made the iconic call “Do you believe in miracles? YES!”. 46 years later he’s still at it commentating TNF and NFL playoff games.
Started watching it last night. I’ve seen every documentary and movie ever made about it. I like that this one is told more from the perspective of the players.
I’ve mentioned this before, Jack O’ Callahan lives six doors down from me.
My favorite part was the players sitting on the bench watching highlights on the big screen.
The smiles on their faces was beyond description.
I graduated Cornell in 1980, and a few friends of mine attended that game.
I visited Lake Placid for that other forum thing and touring the locker room gave me thrills. If you haven’t seen the ESPN 30 for 30 on it, it is a much watch.
This game makes it glaringly obvious how much the information age has changed society. I watched that game on NBC breathlessly fretting over the outcome even though the game had ended hours earlier. That’s inconceivable today.
Yeah, it was such a great watch. Listening to the last guy cut from the team tell the story of getting cut was one of my favorite parts. The irony that it had happened to Brooks 20 years ago was incredible. The coaching job by Brooks has to be one of the best in the history of team sports. Incredible job of getting his team ready for the gold medal game after beating the Soviets, “your fucking graves”.
There are two moments in sports that suffer strongly from The Mandela Effect
The 1980 Team USA victory over USSR did NOT win them the Gold Medal - that would come against Finland
The ball going through Bill Buckner’s legs did NOT cost the Red Sox the World Series - that was in Game 6, and - as Rich Eisen said in a episode of I Love The 80s - “Boston still had Game 7 to lose”
Sure, but everyone thought USSR was unbeatable. That was the US Teams moment. Once over that hump, it was possible.
The Broad Street Bullies had already proved that CCCP were soft in 1976. The only reason the Red Army team continued that game was because the wanted to get paid LOL
