I am heading up to the Twin Cities area after new years to visit family. Usually when I go up there I swim with the U of M masters team, but it has always been self-coached by the swimmers who show up - no coach on deck and they just wing it as they go. Everyone is friendly, but I am looking for something a little more organized this time around.
Any suggestions? I will be staying near St. Paul (Woodbury).
Thanks for the heads-up. I usually spend a week to a month up there during the winter (grew up in northeastern Wisconsin), but everytime I step out of the airport it is a serious shock…doesn’t take long to remember to LAYER and cover every inch of skin.
I live in southern MN, but the guy that runs www.triathlete.com can help you out. Just post on the forum area and ask the same question and you should get a post from Giancarlo or Art, who I think is still the head of the MNtri federation. I know Art posts a lot so he should be able to help you out. If you are looking for an early tri, like first weekend of May, Owatonna has one which is about an hour south on I35. It is 2/3 mile swim in the outside pond, 13 mile bike, and 3 mile trail run. The water temp is usaually 60 or less, so bring a full wetsuit.
