Minimum Water Temp for Swim -USAT/ITU

Ok, everyone knows the maximum temps for the swim to be wetsuit legal with the two organizations. Now,is there a minimum water temperature that the swim leg must meet in order to be held from a safety standpoint? Yea, I know some f*&king idiot will put 32F… this will be important (h20fun) since English Bay in Vancouver the first week of June at WC will be lucky to hit over 55F. Also please no BS canadian stuff from adrian.

I have seen races cancel the swim when it was under 50.

I have seen races make the swim shorter when under 50.

Above 50 I generally have seen not changes.

Dave

excuse my french but your full of it. the ocean doesnt even get close to being under 50F where you live…

I never swim in the ocean. I do lots of river and lake swims here.

I know last year at Folsom, for the last xterra, the water was like 47 degrees.
My wife and I were helping at the race and we were freezing since we could see the snow
on the foothills that had fallen the night before.

The next weekend they had the ice breaker swim, and they had to shorten it since it
was like 49.

Then the next week was the ice breaker tri, and the water was like 52, so they again had to shorten the swim.

So, come do the ice breaker swim at folsom with me next year in April. Maybe it will be another cold winter
and you can see what swimming a race in 50 degree water is like!!!

Dave

you must be mixing air and water temperature up…Folsum lake temp description:
The water temperature near the surface generally cools to 40 to 50oF (4.5 to 10oC) during February and March and warms to 65 to 70oF (18 to 21oC) during August and September

Now back to the original question…does USAT/ITU have any min temperature where the swim leg is not held/shorten???
.

Since you think I am not telling the truth, write Bill the RD at TBFracing.com

Ask him about the water temp for the xterra race, and ice breaker swim in april 06.
