Mini Cooper Clubman; the almost perfect triathlon vehicle

I’m used to driving my Nissan Frontier pickup so I was a little worried about luggage space but this thing did a great job for the two of us going upstate for the weekend. This was with clothes plus bike gear, running gear, swim bags, cooler, food in bags and two cats in carriers. We really had a lot more room than what we used. The barn doors in the back open wide for loading and set the
car off from the other Mini’s running around Woodstock: http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d726b3127ccef85a69abbe2300000040O08IcMnDluzbg9vPgg/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ The only problem I can see is that it’s so much fun to drive that you might just keep going right past your race. On the other hand, if you have a bad race it will make you smile again on the way home. One more shot: http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d726b3127ccef85aa4827fc400000040O08IcMnDluzbg9vPgg/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ I had to wear a matching shirt when I picked it up!

LOVE LOVE LOVE my clubbie too… It is a great vehicle… Great gas mileage ( average about 31 with crazy driving and 35 with old man driving). This car is so fast and corners like a go-cart, has all the luxuries of a foo foo car too. all my crap and dogs fit in the back and the bike goes on the rack…which is made for two… LOVE IT : )))

I’ll see your 2 bike rack and raise you 1 kayakhttp://i31.tinypic.com/f1idd3.jpg rack and raise you 1 kayak
.

did you do merced’s gateway tri last year? i was parked right next to a blue mini that had a swim/bike/run sticker and (i think) a felt was on it.

It looks good but i would of have thought the IDEAL car would allow the tt bike to be put in the back with all the gear. Protect it a bit more from the rain, grime, and casual theives at pit stops.

I don’t know…we can fit two TT bikes and gear in the back of our A4 without ruining the aerodynamics. Don’t even have to remove the wheels. Perfect? Maybe not…but it ain’t a Mini!!!

My truck does all of that, but this one is a blast to drive!

yessir that’s my baby.
will have to miss Merced Gateway this year for the first time in 10 years – family relations getaway

what, and get crap all over the inside?
and that is a steel cable lock wrapped thru frame whels and to the rack. Pitstops don’t happen out of eyesight

Yep…blankets are expensive.

Envious of the Black Clubbie. It was my first choice but the nightfire red came earlier. :stuck_out_tongue:

I would echo the awesome space the Clubman offers. Add on M7 coilovers lowered, front splitter and summer treads, I would not trade it in for anything. ;p

you can’t sleep in it, which instantly rules it out of consideration for me. my perfect triathlon vehicle can carry the bikes, let me sleep overnight at races that are just too far to drive in the AM, but not far enough to justify a hotel. on the way back, i want to be able to toss everything, including the bikes, inside. basically, mini-van, though some have claimed that the honda element can do this as well.

I grew up driving and racing Minis- the Cooper S was fast - now your mini will fit into the back of my Titan…

The clubman is very cool - nice car…

To quote The Rookie (Eastwood movie); “The real criminal here, is the one who painted this car!”

YO,

How does that receiver hitch work on the Minis? The license plate conceals it, then pivots out of the way? Seems like a good solution to having a giant hunk of metal hanging out the bottom of the bumper.

You really shouldn’t leave your Guru with disc hanging off the back…what you need is this:

.

Only problem is…that rear end is fugly.

Mini’s are great fun to drive, but the fact the bike won’t fit in it was a deal breaker for me. I saw a guy pull his bike out of a Mini in 4 pieces the other day! I can fit my entire 56cm P3C in my 2009 Jetta Wagon TDI without taking off the front wheel. THAT’S the ultimate tri vehicle!

Ken

In all fairness, I could put a couple of bikes, all my gear AND your Mini into the back of my big ass Toyota Tundra.

well i don’t think the cable protects the wheels, the bottle cages, the pedals, and other attached parts. My pit stops often involve going to the bathroom and it is difficult to watch your wheels while in the john.

I have had the same vehicle for 5 years and put the bike in the back regularly. If i was doing cyclecross or mtb I might be a bit concerned about getting crap in the car but this has not been a problem in several years of racing or driving to rides.
