Was pretty awful. And immediate. Took a good 15min try get her off the mountain by helicopter.
Feel for every other racer who now has that in their head. I know this is what they do, is the sport. But still, in their Olympic moment.

I only saw the clip above. No before or after. Didnât look like there was any significant twist or giving way on either knee in the build up so can only assume a small pivot shift was enough to throw balance off slightly. Hopefully no big injuries sustained from the landing.
There was 15 mins of medical treatment on the mountain before the airlift to the hospital.
Looking back, itâs quite the story. She was legitimately back enough to make the Olympics⌠Sheâs built different.
I disagree sheâs built different. She could not overcome age and an unrepaired ACL tear. The video of the crash doesnât appear the knee was the cause, but Iâd bet it was a contributing factor.
She is/was like many pro athletes, unwilling to accept her best days are behind her.
Iâm in the middle. She decided to come back because really that is who she is. She earned her way back and was right there on the World Cup.
Last week was brutal and she made decision to go. Downhillers ski hurt. In the end, the day was captured by another great story. Gold winner missed Beijing because she crashed on this course.
I donât think anyone should
on Vonn, she did what a lot of greats do, tried to get that âone last runâ. I just donât know how anyone thought bombing down that course with 1 ACL was going to be a good idea.
Looks like hitting the gate pivoted her sideways, as the cause.
Her best days werenât behind her. Her knee work post-retirement fixed her pain, and she felt good enough to come back. Her results during her comeback were legit elite level. Unfortunate turn of events just before the games and in the final that she came up short if her goals.
But still better than many elites at this level, and years younger.
Canada is dogshit in mixed curling
Once Homan retires and the 2-3 top menâs rinks retire I doubt theyâll even be top 3 countries period.
I see a few things that make it appear as though sheâs biasing her R leg. And I also see her clip the gate. We wonât know for sure what the issues was but Iâm just glad sheâs alright and didnât go flying into a net or down the mountain where she could break her spine or injure her head.
This is one of those situations where a high level athlete or coach makes a risky call and they are going to be considered a genius and go down in history if it works out or theyâre going to look like an idiot and validate all the opinions who pointed out why it was a terrible decision.
I still think, despite her history and legitimate place leading into the games, that the cards were significantly stacked against her and she should have let a different completely healthy athlete step up. Regardless of whether they were as good as her or if they would have come in last place.
In other news the medals are already breaking?
TEMU
TEMU happens.
Also itâs awful that so many of the headlines around Breezy Johnsonâs gold medal also include Vonnâs name. Even the link I posted, which is the Sun FWIW, didnât even mention Johnsonâs name but included Vonnâs.
I want to try speed skating.
I think it wouldâve been great had Vonn medaled. And I certainly am not shitting on her for trying, she earned her spot on the team. But, thereâs always a but, history shows at 40 years old the chances of medaling were already really slim.
From some google fu, oldest Olympic ski medalists.
But (see what I did there), if people listened to the buts, then boundaries would never be pushed.
Sometimes we need someone on our team to tell us itâs time to hang it up, donât push it.
Bode Miller wasnât far off. Gold in combined at 32 and bronze in super-g at 36.
Her training run time sure seemed like she was still in the hunt. She will forever be a skier with a wreckers or checkers attitude. With that lack of risk aversion, she will always be on the limit.
Luge has to be one of the least flattering sports on camera, especially when they go into slo-mo. Lots of bouncing and jiggling.
