It’s wrong no matter how many times it’s repeated.
The British Bobsleigh & Skeleton Association (BBSA) has appealed to CAS against a ruling by the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Fed that its safety helmet does not meet regulations. The case will be heard by CAS in time for the helmet to be used, or not.
The BBSA asked CAS to rule that the Team GB helmet “is compliant with rules and is safe to use in the skeleton competition at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026”.
The British assert that the Team GB helmet is proven to be safer and more beneficial to athletes’ safety than any other helmets being used (presumably with receipts).
CAS notice of appeal:
Don’t you see, though? My way - or something like it - takes all the subjectivity out, “who did it better” nonsense
Just as the winner in other sports is determined by who crossed the line first, or who threw the thing further, or which team scored the most points, whoever completes the most tricks wins, even if it was a little sketchy
And you could get rid of fancy costumes & choreography/choreographers, which can be a barrier to kids starting out
All sport will have some degree of human evaluation. Racing sports will have the least, but they’re also generally uninteresting to watch for the general public. Referees must enforce rules which affect outcomes of games in all of the big sports. In the judged sports, it’s just a bit more direct, but it’s also a diluted concensus of opinion which generally gets it right, or very close to right. It’s not nearly as broken as the inexperienced would believe it is.
I’m really not that interested, sorry
For some reason, I just can’t watch ski racing anymore; not since they started painting the snow. Same with snowboard
The Flyers have ruined hockey for me, completely
It’s nice that they put a little graphic to track figure skaters’ scores in real-time, and that they’ve allowed them to skate to songs with words now - so they can us mashups if they care to - but they still don’t grab me
Tangentially related to the games, WaPOs decision not to send coverage was more serious… They just laid off the entire sports department. Carnage over there.
USA women’s hockey up 2-0 on CZE in the 2nd period.
Now 3-0!
Feeling sad that Mark McMorris is out. Looks like he might be back for slopestyle though.
Maybe his medical team can offer up some advice to Vonn???
And the Canadian womens first game is postponed.
and rob us of this??
GTFO with your take.
If there’s any sport that does not belong in the Olympics, its women’s ice hockey.
Generally even the judged/subjectively scored sports use an objective grading rubric. The athlete starts with a max possible score and then categories of deductions are utilized for common errors and those generally seem to be binary:
Legs apart or legs together
Step out of bounds or not
Large step or loss of balance
Knees bent or not
Etc
Makes the subjective scored far, far more objective. It’s not the judges opinion on who they thought did a better job. The athletes give the max score they will attempt and the judges apply the rubric to decide if they met their score or fell short, by how much.

There are several sports dominated by one or two countries.
It helps drive participation and youth programs in the other countries, which is a big reason and the win.
And there have been several sports dropped because they were dominated by a couple countries. Cricket hasn’t been in the olympics for 126 years. Polo in 90 years. Baseball had an 80 year and a 12 year and a 8 year gap. Softball is the worst. Currently on a 20 year hiatus with a stay of execution in 2020, there have been just two winners - US and Japan. The US has done no worse than 2nd.
Besides Baseball and softball, the dropped sports are english dominated. Cuba, Japan and the US dominated baseball.
Mens basketball (not sure about womens basketball) and all of the diving events. I’m sure there are more.
I thought the narrative was we had to allow the pros in in 92 because the US was always getting their asses kicked…
Out of the 21 games, the US has 17 golds! Only one other country has a gold (because the 2 soviet and 1 yugoslavian aren’t countries anymore). The only way the US doesn’t get a medal is if they boycott the games…
Out of the 13 women’s, the US has 10 golds. The other 3 are soviet/unified post-soviet team of soviet countries.
I never think of looking at individual sports for dominance!
