“Somebody said that we’re not in President Obama’s Final Four, and as much as I respect what he’s doing, really, the economy is something that he should focus on, probably more than the brackets,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said from the Blue Devils’ first-round site in Greensboro, N.C.
Krzysewski is just upset because the “everyone” who hates Duke now even includes the President, haha. Hating Duke (other than Duke grads) is something that I think could finally bring this country together!!!
Seriously, how long does it take to fill out a bracket? He promised Andy Katz from ESPN in the summer or fall that if he won he would fill out a bracket. I agree the economy should be, and is, the focus right now. But all these comments anytime he does anything else at all about how that time should be spent focusing on the economy are ridiculous.
Only Jack Bauer has that kind of ability, not only does Jack not have time to fill out a bracket, he doesn’t even eat or go to the bathroom!!!
"But all these comments anytime he does anything else at all about how that time should be spent focusing on the economy are ridiculous. "
I’m sure that there are any number of things he could be focussing on that would be fine for most people. National Defense, the economy, health care, etc. When he’s spending time sitting front row at NBA games, filling out his bracket on live TV (while he cracks a joke about not being able to watch overtime games because he’s too busy), and becoming the first President to ever go on a Late Night show while in office, he’s leaving himself wide open for this criticism. He is giving many people the impression that he’s busy enjoying the celebrity aspect of being President, instead of soberly engaging in the duties of the President. Fair or not, that’s the message he is sending, and his communications staff could be doing a better job wrangling him.
Actually I would rather Obama screw around with brackets and hang with Leno. That gives him less idle time to perpetuate his trillion dollar spending spree and the socialization of this country that he continues doing when he is actually working.
Well, considering his favorability ratings are higher than either party in Congres and higher than the favorability ratings of his policies, I think his communications staff is probably pleased with their work. I think he and his staff are doing a good job of using his most valuable asset, his personality/likability.
And this isn’t a partisan thing on my part either, I wasn’t one of those people who was pissed when Bush was riding his mountain bike and thought it was dumb when he said he gave up golf out of solidarity to military families (even though he actually didn’t).

I have less a problem with that than I do with all the time wasted grandstanding and expressing faux populist outrage (by Obama, Congress, the media and seemingly everyone else) over the AIG bonuses. The state of the economy must be pretty darn good if this is the problem we’re focusing on.

If you are happy with a President whose policies are not very well liked, but who is really popular, then I guess they’re doing fine. Personally, I think Pres Obama’s post election popularity honeymoon won’t continue to last long, and his personal ratings will come back to match his policy ratings pretty quickly, especially if he continues to show up in these semi-celebrity photo-ops/interviews, and if he and the Democrats don’t find a way to get off the AIG bonus issue and back to more serious economic work.
But hey, I could be wrong. No one ever lost a buck betting on the stupidity or short attention span of the American public.
Any public university in the US (but especially in NC) should be ashamed for allowing Duke to practice in their gym. Duke is the enemy of all Americans and your school’s administration is akin to the Taliban and their support for Al queda pre 9/11. For shame.
One of Obama’s personal aides, Reggie Love, is a former Duke B-baller. Chicago buddies, I think. What the Basketballer-in-Chief should realize is that Love sat on the Duke bench and if Obama can score on Love, it shouldn’t be an indication of the current squad’s ability.
Following Obama’s “Spread the Wealth Around” campaign promise basically implies he’s NOT rooting for the school(s) where the wealth will come from.
Disclaimer #1 - I’m a Duke MBA.
Disclaimer #2 - I don’t have wealth to spread around.
