Midwest storms and global warming

Did you see the storm in Chicago today?

With all the amazing storms and floodings, heat waves (record heat in many areas), and severe drought in other areas this summer, who can deny that global warming is happening and that Al Gore is right? Seriously, Bush should have agreed to Kyoto.

Yeah, there’s never been storms like this before, in all of history. Damn that Bush anyway, this is all his fault.

Spot

It’s the frequency of these storms, not the severity.

there’s a difference between climate (LT) and weather (ST)

we’ve had storms like this before… this is just late in the season.
this is just makes up for June/July, which were freakin’ spectacular… really amazingly mild weather for Chicago.

Is there a statistical difference in the number of storms now and how many there were before the warming trend? I have noticed that this year in Ohio we have had very few thunderstorms, at least here in my neck of the woods. Maybe the global warming is only over Chicago…

Yes and then bought carbon credits to be incompliance
.

Maybe if Gore and his BIG ASS would get in between earth and the son we could get a break.Storms & floods did you just arrive on this planet yesterday?I would be more worried how China is “f” ing up the environment.I can’t go on ,I have to check the a/c its hot.

I got a full carbon bike,bars, seatpost,crankarms, will that help for off set?

DavHamm,

These storms are so bad I’m thiinking about building an Ark out here in my Howell compound. I have a Lions flag that I’ll put on the mizzen! I’ll sail it east. Wait for me on your rooftop! The only thing is that you’ll have to sign allegiance to the team before I let you board.

Bernie

It’s bad timing/bad location. The same sort of tropical storm remnant collides with/merges into other low pressure spot happens several times a year in the central/north Atlantic Ocean with the same sorts of very rough weather resulting.

There has been some very freakish weather patterns in the past two weeks- the high parked over the American southeast not only sent Dean on a track that’s more common for an October hurricane than a late August one but also kicked a whole bunch of warm moist air toward Oklahoma in just the right way to cause Erin to reintensify when it was well inland. (Apparently something that occasionally happens with Australian cyclones under similar freaky weather conditions)

It’s odd and very destructive but we don’t have enough data to tie it into a bigger pattern related to global warming or declare it one of those cases when apparently too many butterlies were flapping their wings at once.

The ice age is coming. mark my words.

You’re a fucking moron… Where do you come up with this stuff

Why didn’t Clinton sign it when he had the chance 10 years ago?

You obviously don’t understand global warming or why we are not supporting the Kyoto treaty.

House #1 A 20 room mansion ( not including 8 bathrooms ) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool ( and a pool house) and a separate guest house, all heated by gas. In one month this residence consumes more energy than the average American household does in a year. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2400. In natural gas alone, this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not situated in a Northern or Midwestern “snow belt” area. It’s in the South. House #2 Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university. This house incorporates every “green” feature current home construction can provide. The house is 4,000 square feet ( 4 bedrooms ) and is nestled on a high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat-pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F. ) heats the house in the winter and cools it in the summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas and it consumes one-quarter electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Surrounding flowers and shrubs native to the area enable the property to blend into the surrounding rural landscape.

HOUSE #1 is outside of Nashville, Tennessee; it is the abode of the "environmentalist" Al Gore.
~~~~~  HOUSE #2 is on  a ranch near Crawford, Texas; it is the residence the of the President of the United States, George W. Bush.
An "inconvenient truth"
Well done George and I hope to incorporate as many of those features as I can when I next own a house.
Not sure what relevance it has to the thread though.
You can’t be serious…
Do you make this stuff up trying to be funny or is this what you really believe?
If you realy beleive the garbage you post how exacty did you jump to the conclusions you did from my post?
Not sure what relevance it has to the thread though.
Once again I’m not sure what relevance the thread has to do with global warming. Climate does not equal weather, period. Certainly climate INFLUENCES weather but it’s near impossible to directly link individual weather patterns to overall climate change.
As far as the other stuff. I’m definitely looking into geothermal and solar heating for my house. I’m lucky enough to have radiant heat which was base board and I’m slowly converting to radiant floor. This is a great way to heat…not so good for cooling. I’m hoping that in the future I can add a solar water heater and some heat exchanger for hot water and supplementing the boiler for the radiant heat. The next step would be to add geothermal cooling, but I have no idea if that will even work. I can only imagine that running 55-60 degree water thru the tubes will have a cooling effect, but like not nearly the heating effect of running 140-160 degree water thru the same tubes. Guess I need to look up a HVAC type guy somewhere.
On another side note I was watching “Ecotech” on Discovery the other night and they had some pretty neat stuff. One guy was completely running his house and car off of solar and converted solar to hydrogen. Only drawback was the setup cost him 500K, a little steep for my blood.
Some other very interesting housing concepts as well. Neat show.
people need to stop being such pussies.
We survived as a species for several million years without air conditioning and climate control and with all the advances made in insulation and non energy burning solutions to heat and cold we should be able to do so again.
Yer in Howell - Good, when my house floats out of Fowlerville can I sail it your way? What area you live in?
i’m at Owosso Rd & Allen.
We survived as a species for several million years without air conditioning and climate control
Some did, others chose to live in a cave with year around 55-60 degree temps.
I have no problem with “Creature comforts”, just think there’s a whole lot we can do to create them on next to no impact to the environment.
Some of the new home builds on the EcoTech show did exactly that. Providing heating and cooling using almost 100% natural sources.
I think we’re on the same page in the sense that intelligent modern day day building techniques should be able to afford us decent heating and cooling with little environmental impact.
