I know the forecast will change ten times by this Saturday, but it looks like cool temps and rain for a race I’m doing. Looking for race day attire that isn’t going to make me a parachute on the bike. I’m thinking:
-toe covers
-waterproof vest (I need to buy one, my only waterproof jacket is quasi-loose and a freaking sauna inside)
-aero lid will at least keep my head dry
The coolest I’ve raced in the rain was 50-52 degrees at Zofingen a few years ago. I did that with base layers and no waterproof stuff, but definitely don’t think I could survive five/six hours if it’s any colder than that. Suggestions please!
I’d do the toe covers since they can be left on your shoes. I might take a set of arm warmers with me, and keep them rolled up and ready to put on in T1 if it’s really cold.
Never underestimate the power of plastic! If it is going to be cold a chunk of plastic bag on the front side under the jersy/Tri top does wonders for maintaining body temp. Best thing is that it is easy to remove if you start getting hot and there is pretty much no aero penalty.
One answer: Gabba.
You can get the jersey or the jacket. I have the jacket and you can take the arms of so you get a vest.
Dan used the jersey at Norseman this year under rough conditions, so the jersey will also work.
Most pro cycling teams have actually used Gabba on rainy days this year. That is the reason why all the cyclist have the same black jacket.
