Michigan/Ohio Athletes: Ironman University February 27

February 27 Elite Endeavors is hosting an “Ironman University” one day Ironman clinic in Livonia, Michigan. The class is from 9 AM to 3 PM and includes lunch. It is at the Livonia YMCA and willl include: Coaching advice on IM preparation from USAT licensed coach Joyce Donaldson. Thoughts on training from me, Tom Demerly and Ironman Wisconsin podium finisher Jim Donaldson. The ins and outs on Ironman logistics: Travel to and from race venues, actions at the race site for pre-race week, what happens at registration, inside tips on getting in next year’s event, what to pack for the race, what to leave home. How to avoid race day penalties as taught from a licensed, IM experienced USAT/ITU official. Ironman distance nutrition: Extensive discussion on IM race nutrition with an emphasis on planning, practice and establishing your nutrition plan for the environmental conditions. With support from Hammer Nutrition and Crank Sports, makers of “E-Gel”, the only elctrolyte sports gel. Ironman bike set-up: how to keep your bike light on Ironman day, what to carry, most importantly: what NOT to carry. Setting the bike up for IMWI, IMCAN, IMLP, IMHI and IMFL from the people who have done the races. Real world flat fixing and “combat” bike maintenance for race day. Making a detailed time-line race plan. Much more.

This is the perfect opportunity for Ironman veterans and beginners to learn and network information about Ironman racing and preparation. This is for the first timer and for the veteran IM racer- we know each will take away valuable insights from this. We’re putting a lot of work into this information packed 6 hour curriculum. We’ll be hands-on with bicycles and tri gear, demonstrating packing transition and special needs bags, making race plans and viewing DVD footage of dos and don’ts from previous IM races.

Ther will be a lot to learn. Sign up soon on Sign-Me-Up Sports. It’s $65 but the information is priceless in training and on race day.

Oh, ooops,. This not being in any way affiliated with WTC we will probably hence forth refer to this as “Ultra-Distance University”.

Damn. Forgot about that.

Yeeha! I’m in, been looking for a good seminar close to me.

We promise you a good one. I post the registration link ASAP.

Excellent!! See ya there.

“Ironman bike set-up: how to keep your bike light on Ironman day, what to carry, most importantly: what NOT to carry.”

Tom, come on. You are giving away all the secrets - chief among those being you don’t have to load down that superlight, super aero $5,000 dream machine of a bike like you are heading out for a week long bike tour. There is an aid station 10 miles down the road!

bump, anyone else, Bueller, Bueller,
.

I’ll probably sign up. I don’t plan on doing an ironman for a couple of years yet (I’m thinking the year I turn 40 – 2007), but our movers are coming the day after the workshop to start packing and this may be a fitting segue. I also bet the information would be useful for halfs, which I do plan on doing in the next year or so.

Amy, I am also not doing an iron this year (btw same plan, year I turn 40, that’s friday for me, plans change) but the information will be valuable no matter what in my opinion.

count me in and I’m sure I’ll bring a couple of friends…oops I forgot I don’t have any, I’ll just bring my training buds!

I’m IN! WHERES THE LINK?!!??!?!

Jeff, you could help teach the class.

Here is a link to more info before the WTC guys bust us and we have to call it “Ultra Distance University”:

.

Can’t make this one. But, as a newbie’s newbie, I’ll definitely make a future one (should there be one, of course).

Oh, well, funny you should mention that…

The next class- a few weeks later at the same location, is a one day newbie clinic for triathlon in general (not ultra-distance specific) and should be pretty cool.

Stay tuned.

Assuming the date works, I’ll be coming from Cincinnati. Sounds perfect.

True newbie here: for example, I hope the first item on the agenda is to have a, you know, actual bike there, with a knowledgeable person such as yourself pointing to the bike and saying, “THIS is a bike … I hope you are all taking notes on this.”

Well, I’m not THAT bad.

John

We got that covered…

If you go to the link there are a few fun photos frm the IM experience, like this one from IM NZ I took last year:

Hey Tom: I’m wondering why IMCDA is not offered as one of the courses to be discussed? Didnt you do it before?

Personal interest in that cuz its my A race!

I’ve done Canada twice but not Coure d’ Alene.

Registration is $65. Clinic runs from 9 AM to 6 AM with lunch from Subway included in the price. We’ll have door prizes from Timex, Aquaman, Cervelo, DeSoto, Jandd, Spinervals, Velo-Press, Felt, Craft and more!

Tom,

The above quote was taken from the Bikesport website. Do i have to bring my sleeping bag along…? Looks like we will be having a 21 hr class, eh…?
