Tom Archer and Jason Lummis were riding on 36 through the Pinckney area. Tom was leading Jason on the shoulder of the road when a teal/green/blue Pontiac Grand Am laid on the horn and swerved TOWARD them. The driver went over the white line and struck Tom hurtling him to the ground. His helmet and collarbone shattered, but he lived. Jason plowed into and over him and was fortunate to not hit his helmet-less head. Tom is recovering at home with his newborn and wife. Jason “walked” away. Tom is an amazing rider with tremendous success on the road and MTB.
The car drove off, well aware of what he/she had done. There were witnesses who saw the driver, and some were even bold enough to stop at the accident scene and tell police that the “bikers were in the way.”
Details of this accident have come to my attention via 2nd and 3rd hand accounts and I won’t testify to their accuracy other than Tom and Jason were struck, Tom broke his collarbone, the driver did not stop and is still at large.
He could be dead, I ride 36 too. I could be dead.
