Michelin Tires

Is there a difference between the pro2 race and the Ironman? I’m very happy with Pro2 Race but LBS doesn’t have red to match my bike. But they have the Ironman.

Supposedly the Ironman tire has a bit more puncture resistance but maybe a tiny bit more rolling resistance. I wonder if it’s even perceptable?

I wonder too about what makes the ironman a ‘triathlon’ tyre. How is a triathlon tyre diffrent from a regular cycling tyre? Marketing “genius” I suppose.

You can also go to the Michelin website where they have a visual pictogram of sorts comparing these two tires.

OK, if I remember the little picture thingy from the Michelin web site, they cost more and have better “grip” what ever that means. The durability and puncture resistance are the same. Michelin seems to imply that you need better traction in a Tri.

Sounds like you have your priorities right:

A#1 – matching your tires to your bike

Do you also color coordinate the Gatoraide you put in your bottles?

I have always wondered why tire companies think that a TRI tire needs to corner well and have dual compounds, personally I think that a TRI specific tire would be one compound probably a bit harder than most tires and and roll fast.

A triathlon tire needs to be made out of carbon, come in a variety of colors, and cost a lot.

Actually, I use Infinit. No color at all. I guess a little red food coloring could bring the whole package together though.

I guess the idea is that a tri bike doesn’t handle as well as a road bike, thus they deduce that you’d need slightly better traction, especially in wet conditions, which is why they make them grippier.

I train on the lithion’s and have even raced crits on them, and they’re pretty bombproof and grippy. And the Pro Grips are what most of our cycling team race with, and we’ve raced in some cold and super slippery wet conditions, and have yet to be in a crash (unless taken out by other people, and even those have all been in dry conditions).

Here is the most resent tire rolling test that I know of.
