I’m in the market for some new tires on my clincher race wheels. Does anyone know if the pro race 3 have a lower rolling resistance than the Pro Race Light? What would be a better race tire in general?
I don’t think anyone knows that yet since the ProRace3’s are so new. But, that is a great question that I think a lot of people (myself included) would LOVE to know!
rod what is the weather looking like up there? (In FL at the moment).
in regards to the OP, has anyone on here tried the pro race 3s?
Not great today - did a 5 mile race (Frostbite 5) in Ft. Thomas with blistering winds and high 20’s. Was decent over the weekend though and I got in about 100 miles on the bike in the hills (rather bike here in the 30’s/40’s than 70’s in the flat/traffic in FL - most of my family there).
I would also like ANY feedback on the 3’s - like are they are hard to mount as the 2’s?

Glad to know it’s not just me.
Say RR, I had a whirlwind trip to your neck of the woods last week. Spent last Wednesday night at the Marriott Rivercenter. I can’t believe I spent what little time I had for enjoying the river looking at those murals instead. Those things are amazing!
Had a 12th floor room facing the river. Stunning view. Looked straight out on the football stadium. I woke up from a deep sleep at about 3 am and that was the first thing I saw. I feakin’ thought the aliens had landed!
.
LOL! Yeah - nice stadium and downtown area. The Bengals certainly don’t deserve it! Drop a line if you are ever in town again and have some time. Some really great rides are abound! I can certainly find a bike for ya’ (we have lots of girls that ride with us) ![]()
I (like you I think) have lots of different tires, wheels, etc. I have definitely narrowed it down to the ProRace2 tires. they are a BIT&* to mount on any wheel! Too bad I really like the things or I would have moved on long ago.
thanks for the update. i have not been on my bike in three weeks, and should have the stuff to put it back together next week though. still no running yet:-(.
i have had no issue mounting the pro race 2 on my wheels. went out and off without an issue. maybe just my wheel though. hopping the race 2s price goes down a bit now that the 3s are out and i can pick up a few sets at once.

Thanks for the link!
Thanks for the link! PR3s look promising for sure!
rod what rim strip do you have? Velox tape ? You could try something thinner like the zipp rim strips. I haven’t noticed my michelins to be bad but I came from the conti gp 3000s and they were really bad for me.
on my Ksyrium SLs there is NO rim tape! So that shoots that theory down ;-(
Mounts just as hard on my rear disc too - obviously also with no rim tape.
maybe it’s the mavics . I had cosmics and that is where the gp 3ks were so tight. There is a range and maybe they are on the bigger end. Velocity is on the small end. The tires go on as easy as a mtn. bike and I can probably remove w/0 a lever. a little scary.
do you stretch the tire before the 1st mounting? I put on and take off PR2s from SSC SL rims without tools, but only if I stretch the tire 1st…
I can’t really “stretch” them unless heated (I’ve done the dyer trick and it works).
Yes, the Mavic rims seem to have a much tighter tolerance then my Hed or Renn rims. My Reynolds rims are very tight as well (Velox tape on those).
I put my foot in the tire and pull as hard as I can in about 6 places around the tire. They usually go from really tight (needing tools) to be able to mount by hand…

Interesting, I find the Pro 2 Race to be hard as hell to get on my Velocity Deep V but easy to get on my Mavic Open Pro. Go figure.

which rim tape do you have on each? Well, I guess one lesson here is try it out… there may even be a noticeable difference between the same model of rims?
