MiamiMan in June

Anybody doing the MiamiMan Half in June? Anybody participate last year? How was it? If it sucked, I’m SOL…already signed up!

Chris

I thought that race was in November?

This year, they added a June race. The one in november is still on too.

Glad to hear that. We’ll be ass deep in snow by November so I was planning to take a vacation and do the MiamiMan and store up some sunshine as I prepare to retreat to the basement and the trainer for the winter.

Yeah…the more I think about it, I wish I had waited and signed up for the November race. I haven’t been to Miami since moving to FL, but I can image Maiami will be blazing in June.

I plan on doing the oly then. considering my parents live 5 minutes from the park it should owrk out. I am excited about a run through the zoo. Although the street around there can be pretty bad in places and all look the same. the bike wont be much fun

Is it pretty flat around that area? How about wind conditions?

I just went to the course map. I have never ridden on the first part on roads 127th ave and 216st. they are much of the same as the rest of the course though. The 15 mile loop will be boring. It is on farm roads and in the morning smeels like bud light. Definatly expect wind. This area is normally pretty windy and there is nothing out there to block it for you. Also if you are not used to very high humidity it will get you.

the run is what looks great here. The park is used for highschool xc meets. I have run here beofre and ti is a nice place to run. They have paved and dirt trail and I am not sure where through the park they take you but it should be good. The rest of the run through metro zoo should be fun. This is the part i am looking forward too. Plus it will get my mom to stop bothering me about coming home. lol.

I did the race last year and can only speak highly about it. The only thing that bothered me was the awards ceremony. It took FOREVER! Rob the RD is a super cool guy, very worried about his athletes. I sent him some suggestions about what to do to impr0ove the race and it looks like he may be doing them. but they were just small details to improve the race.

Other than that, the water was nice and clean, the volunteers well informed, good post race food. If I wasn’t doing IM BRA I would definately do the June race. Warning: it will be VERY hot and humid on the course in June. Be prepared to bike easy so that you can run the run.

It got awful hot on the run course last year and we were racing at the very end of the fall. Summer will be cruel.

I will be there again in November, for sure.

Cool guys…thanks for the information. I’m really looking forward to the race…heat and all!!

I’m signed up for the 1/4 Iron, but will stop after the bike. If I didn’t mind being in the water for two days, I would do the Half. Expect heat and humidity. Bring your salt tabs.
