I will be in Miami for several days on business and am interested in getting some runs in. Anyone have any recommendations on 6-10mile run routes? I’m staying at the Raleigh Hotel on Collins Ave *(Ocean Front). How about tri-shops in the area?
Check out www.bikefit.com, probably best tri shop in town. Also go to www.southfloridatriathletes.com. If you E-mail the administrator - Frank, he can put you in touch with some group activities.
Have you ever stayed at the Raleigh? Is muy nice. Andre Balaz just redid it. Really incredible. Best hotel on the beach IMO. Pool is my favorite on South Beach. And they have a Sunday afternoon locals pool party packed with lesser models, hipsters and the like. Not everybody’s cup of tea but it’s something to see.
As for runs, you’re right on the beach so the recommendation would be to leave your running shoes at home and run on the beach. Super good workout, especially for the calves and shins (good low impact muscle builder to protect against shin splints), but bring your HRM cause the sand will get your heart rate up in your throat quick. If you must run on solid surface there is a board walk on the beach that starts at like 23rd st. which is like two blocks from the Raliegh.
If you wunna run/ride off the beach – Key Biscayne is worth the trip. That’s where most people train. You could swing out there after your visit to Swim, Bike, Run in South Miami. It’s the best shop in town. Very small but run by really good guys and they have just about everything. Bicycle and Fitness is bigger but further down the road a ways, overpriced and I’ve never been impressed by there service.
When you hit town pick up a copy of StreetMiami Magazine (yellow and black boxes on every other street corner). It’s a free arts and culture weekly. they’re the best source in town for where to go, what to do, where to eat, etc. or message me and I’ll hook you up.
Thanks all. I appreciate the insights. I’ll let you know how it went when I return. Looking forward to a few days of warm weather…although I’ll be working inside most the day and night, I’ll have time in the AM to get a couple of 1 hr runs in.
