My wife loves the 80s hairbands. They suck but are harmless what gets me though is when people say it’s metal. It is the furthest thing from metal to me. How do you define metal?
Motorhead, that is all you need. All the rest are girlie men.

I agree. 80s hair metal is not real methul.
So this is not real metal? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7eqxg92YG0
It sounds good to me!
I’m not able to listen to this now…I’ll check it out later!
The term “metal” comes from the song, Born to be Wild (Heavy Metal Thunder - refering to the sound of motorcycles going down the road). Heavy Metal music should have that kind of heavy choppy hard rock sound to it. Some hair band songs and some hair band groups qualify. Lots don’t. GNR is arguably a hair band, but they are a lot more than just that and obviously qualify as hard rock (metal) in many ways.

Metal is like porn.
… I can’t define. But I know it when I hear it.
An aside … what the hell is up with crap like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pfgcbtg7Lw8&feature=PlayList&p=C8BB3240260125A0&playnext=1&index=5
Death Metal suck hard and heavy but at least it’s Metal. Some VH1 show keeps showing Bon Jovi as Metal.

Pat Boone “In A Metal Mood”
.
Didn’t Jethro Tull win the first MYV Metal band of the year award. I think that makes them metal. ; ^ )
In my honest opinion:
Metallica (1st 4 albumns…and their last one)
Iron Maiden
uh…hmmm…I think I strictly define metal by those two bands.
“uh…hmmm…I think I strictly define metal by those two bands”
What, no Sabbath? No Dio? No Judas Priest?
So this is not real metal? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7eqxg92YG0

No it isn’t. Check out Judas Priest Sad Wings of Destiny that’s metal!
You didn’t like the Rob Halford part ??
BTW. I like Pain Killer and Screaming for Vengence more.
What is metal? I’ll tell you on Tuesday morning…
YEAH BABY!!!

I don’t consider Judas Priests later stuff (Hell Bent for Leather ect.) true metal. This stuff is what I call comercial metal, check out Sad Wings when it came out it got no air play at all but for me by far the best Priest album. Oh and Rob wore jeans and had long brown hair. Here you can see the change starting, short hair but still brown and a white jump suit but no leather yet.

I don’t know. I just never got into those bands. Even then, I just have a hard time considering them Heavy Metal compared to this:

Or this:
Motorhead
End of thread right here. Lemmy is metal.
I can remember being about 6 years old(in '86) and my cousin was driving around with Motorhead playing in his 81 Trans Am. I was so deathly afraid.
Without Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Ronnie James Dio, there never would have been Metallica.
A good example of a metal band is… “At The Gates” They are metal. Metallica is more like hard rock than metal.
