Based on the specs and price, it seems ok. I have heard of Mercier before but didn’t know they were still building bikes. Anyone have any thoughts?

Are you maybe confusing this brand with the british manufacturer Mercian (http://www.merciancycles.com/)?
Nope. Definitely thinking of Mercier bikes - old school french company that built bike back in the 80s… (http://www.cyclesmercier.com). Actually just read that there are new Mercier bikes that share nothing but the name - these are asian production bikes now.
The only place I’ve seen these bikes is online at bikesdirect.com. I have a friend that’s ordered two bikes (not Merciers) from their site and he has been happy with the deals/service.
