Nice. I am really happy that Hamish Carter took it from Docherty (even though I really wanted Rana to win). That 3rd guy was a really big surprise. Who is he?
Bevan needs to straighten those shoulders when he runs. They are rounded in and it looks really bad.
I am so over the moon…the whole country will probably have a day off tomorrow, this is enormous stuff here - our third gold medal, that might not sound like much to you big kids, but for a country of 4 million that doesn’t spend a lot on sport it is really huge. What a great race, super tough, that Swiss guy hung on for dear life, top effort from him, but Carter looked good all day, even up those climbs he was monstering it. Those guys have succeeded through their own toil and tenacity, it’s very emotional.
Yeah Beavan should sort that run out, he’ll never win anything running like that!!!NOT
Go you Kiwi’s. I’ll tell his coach to sort that out next time I see him;-)
Scott
Docherty runs a sub 30 minute run split to win Worlds, wins the Silver at the Olympics and your critical of his form? Maybe the guy was absolutely spent. Great job by the Kiwis
I hope Victor feels good about his race. I am glad for him through his support from IronCLM. Looked like a pretty good run time Good thing he saved his legs by not being part of the opening ceremonies
I guess after all dust settles we can concretely say that the bike leg is meaningless in ITU format. Those top 3 men did absolutely no work on the bike and shouldn’t call themselves triathletes. Sarcastic mode off. Hunter had the fastest run split of the day, but since he got hosed on the bike he was left out to dry. What do other people think?

In post race interviews Simon Whitfield admitted that he did not go with the key move. He said that he made a “rookie mistake”. This is speculation, but perhaps Kemper made a similar deceison and decided to stick with Whitfield. They both knew that the women’s race had been won from 2 minutes back, so they knew that depending on who was out front that it was possible to win from behind. That’s what happned in Sydney. However, clearly that was a mistake in the men’s race as there was too much talent at the front in the break.
I was really hoping to see some sub 30 minute 10k’s from the top guys (whitfield, rana, etc). Hell, a lot of the guys ran slower than Kate Allen. That’s pretty sad…

That is so incredibly irrelevant to the men’s race.
It was windier in the women’s race.
Only two women were working at the front, and one was left alone for the last lap. She just happened to be the strongest all-round short course athlete breathing today, but that is moot.
I know someone who cleaned up betting on Hamish Carter not to place or show, but to WIN. He made up what he lost on betting for Loretta to WIN.
That race went exactly as it was meant to. The guys who could ride, rode. Andrew Johns came from the pack and rode up to the break, others could have too.
It was a wonderful thing to see Rana and Robertson dueling it out for 23rd place. This course was a triathlon course, not a glorified run course.
