My FSA MegaExo bottom bracket is dead after a long fight with friction. I crashed on it a while ago and ever since then it’s felt a little crunchy. It’s finally making some horrendous clicking and pinging sounds, so it’s time to be replaced.
From FSA’s website I’ve determined that the part number I need is BB-6000. That’s the bottom bracket for a 68mm shell, English thread, for the Gossamer crank.
I fired off an e-mail to the LBS and was told that they BB they stock, while not BB-6000, will work for any English shell. FSA lists several different part numbers, one for each crank they offer (Gossamer, SLK, etc).
So who’s right here? Should I trust the LBS and try the “universal” FSA BB, or should I just order the specific part for the bike? Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks!
