Media in LA struggles with triathletes, water temp and term wetsuits - but at least they're trying

Here in Los Angeles the LA Tri Club has a strong turnout every Wednesday for what we loosely term the “Ocean Speed Circuit”. The lifeguards put a bouy about 250m off shore and we’ve been using it for a couple of years to do loops around the buoy and two cones on the beach. We put in 3-4 laps and like most group trainign it boils down to small groups racing one another - a good workout.

A local news helicoptor needed some B-roll two days ago and hung over our group with camera zooming in and out. Konrad Ribeiro leads this swim and is the quality swimmer noted at the top of the footage (he also won the State Champs in cat 4 criterium last weekend).

I have to chuckle at the reporters shock and dismay at the water temp- which most of us would find rather nice right now.

60.4, shocking! =] (and this coming from a guy who wants to wear a thermal cap if the temp is <70º)

Good coverage for the club.
