Mechanic - Cozumel 70.3

Hello. In 2011 i assembled my bike in Cabrilla sports center (a local store). I liked the service. But…i arrived today and…the place is closed (a sign: for rent). Somebody knowns were did it moved? Or, otherwise, did you know another mechanic in the island? I wanna ride my bike soon…rs. And the official mechanical service is only friday.

Thanks
Eduardo

Send a PM to KathyCaribe. It’s her store.

Here’s Cabrilla’s phone number, if it helps: 987-878-4414
No idea of their status.

How capable are you assembling your own bike? Maybe STers can talk you through it. If you just need tools, there are a couple “bike shops” but the bikes you see there aren’t the same as yours. I’ve been in most of the “bike shops” in Cozumel. They might not be helpful to you. There are a few local cyclists who might be able to help you. If you speak Spanish, and can track them down Sunday, that could work out. Best odds might be to find an athlete who arrived early and is handy. Maybe a ST has arrived early who can help you.

cabrilla here. you must have gone to the wrong place. we are open and very very ready for 70.3. edificio portales, it is the building with arches, on the left when turning inland at the stop light at margaritaville. we are the last store front on the left.
our mechanics are ready to work and should be set up by Tuesday or wed. however, come by and we can get them to do the service starting Monday.
I am Dailene Erickson. Kathy is a friend but doesn’t even live on the island. I am the owner of cabrilla’s.
we are now carrying hammer nutrition along with gu, accelerade, and EFS. plenty of CO2 and other needs for the event.
we open Monday thru Saturday 9am til 8pm
sunday we are off.

Sounds like things are sorted out. However, my "team" (myself and my 2 sons) are arriving later on Monday and my one son used to wrench for a number of years although he won't be bringing his tools other than for assembly of his own bike. Let me know if you still need help by Tuesday or later.

Dailene,

We met last year during IMCoz. Great to learn your business is thriving. I was trying to help Eduardo by posting your phone number. Hopefully, Eduardo reads your post, and follows your directions to Cabrilla’s on Lunes/Monday.

Damon

Thanks!! Good idea.

Hello. I look for you monday. Thanks!!!

O can wait for your mechanic.

Thanks!! I found my wrench torch in the bag (i think i had forgotten). Now, the bike is assembled. My pump broke - and the hotel’s pump can’t pump a tubular tire -but it’s a minor problem.

Good trip!
Eduardo

Don’t know what Hotel you are in but I’d ask at the front desk whether anyone else that is staying there is doing the Triathlon. If so then they may have a pump. Or, just drop over to Cabrilla’s and they should be able to help. Note, when I travel with my bike, I still keep my air pressure at about 100 psi. I ride at about 110 psi, depending upon the road, weather and surface conditions. Then, I can ride my bike even if I can’t get to a pump right away (although I carry one with me).

And, on race day there will be pumps in T1.

Good Luck.

Sorry to high jack the thread but does anyone know of a good bike shop in playa del Carmen?

there are a few. don’t be scared by the ones wtih tricicolos out front - you’d be surprised what they have. our favorite non road bike bike shop is on 30th ave (divided road) and about 28th or 30th on the east side of the street.

for a higher end, check out TECNOBIKE. it is south of town but i’m guessing you’re without wheels. today and tomorrow are holidays so they’ll be closed but if you want i can offer a ride there on Wednesday when we drop the kids off for school. pm me if you’d like a ride there. they’re on the west side of teh carretera and around Liverpool I think - that part of town on the carretera, give me a call if you’re in a pinch - I’ll PM you my phone number. also my husband is pretty handy and he can likely help you out too.

hope you enjoyed the Grito last night!

Hi Dailene.
