The “I’m done with MDot” thread gots me thinking. Kona is the real bottleneck and the source of all the other complaints, so here’s what should happen:
-in 2010, Kona should be opened up. And then that’s it.
You wanna do it? Fork over $1000, get yourself to the island, and finish the race. no qualifying, no validating spots, no lottery, just all comers with a cheque and a dream. I’m projecting about 35,000 toe the line (40,000 pay the entry fee, tho). Mass start. MASS. Families get to cross at the finish line. Drafting still not allowed, but not strictly enforced.
You’re WTC (or whatever you’re called now) and you finally have this big fat bed of money, so you can then say “we’re done - we’ve achieved that we wanted. Sweet Lord, we’re rich.” You then move production to Mexico, live large off interest, and focus on your core business of manufacting matresses, footbaths and dreams.
From then on, you only let 5 people race Kona every year. 3 women, 2 men. Let me know if there are any questions, though i think it’s pretty much foolproof and the logic speaks for itself.
