How accurate are the predicted times?
Lets say entering 5K and looking at 1/2 and full marry.
Seem to work pretty well for my girlfriend (144lbs)
But for me, at 170lbs, my 5k time predicts 1/2 and full marry times that I cannot do.
Which makes sense really.

I think it says on there that the times are less accurate when you are using a short distance (5k) to predict a long distance (1/2 or full marathon).
works fairly well for me when i put in a 1/2 mary time. might estimate a 5k time a little quicker then i seem to be able to pull off.
close though.
I would say pretty accurate, big caveat is putting in the work required for the distance. After a year of always running 10km races after doing a 100k plus bike ride I did one fresh in October and ran 36:40,put in a little bit more of a run focus from that point on an ran 1:21:45 in a Half 5 weeks later (McMillan had me running 1:21:53)
So all in all it is a good guide for what pace you should aim for in race planning. If you enter a 5k time I would assume that in the lead up to your half you would be running a 10k or 10 miler, so this should give you a guide on how your training is going. Likewise I would expect you would run a half prior to a full and this should give you a good guide.
I also try and use the guideline paces for training from the calender as they match very closely what I got from doing V02 max and lactate testing. For reference I am at about 175 pounds so not sure the weight has a huge influence. Another technique for predicting a marathon time is to do Yasso’s 800’s. See this link for details, my training partner swears by this for predicting his marathon times http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,5033,s6-51-0-0-624,00.html
Running an 8km tomorrow so McMillan says I should run around 29 min…so we will see if this right (Race plan is to give it so could go well or could bomb and go slower)
.
It works GREAT for me with the exception of the 5K time- i am much better at longer distnaces, dont have much top end speed- so the 5K time is faster than i can do, but it basically perfectly predicts my half mary, mary, and my within tri- half mary and mary. Im actually really sprursied at how good it is.
I will let you know after this Sunday! I am running the Phoenix Rock N Roll Marathon this weekend and I was curious myself to see how accurate the marathon time will be. I have had the same experience as others in here, that my 5K times seem a bit out of my range.
